When I had my kid, I changed to a Punto! (Sporting in broom yellow, of course).
No problems with child seats and a pram could just about fit in the boot (although this was before the trend to have super huge prams that cost as much as a car came about).
Your car was sold as a family car. You don’t need to change unless you want to (or to use it as an excuse to sell the idea to the wife in which case a Cayenne Turbo is the only logical choice

)Already had a 5 series, though I had already taken into consideration a future child.. Worked well though the rear facing seat + base would touch the rear of the front seat. Plenty of space otherwise.
Would have been fine with the second kid too though we moved to an SUV.
The SUV is in the process of being replaced with a 3 series saloon, but for trips to the dump and the holiday/airport runs, the boot simply isn't big enough for luggage (fine for 95% of the rest of the time) . So we will probably migrate back to an SUV.

Yes it seems to be. Iv always kept it in good nick. Its on high miles and probs will get a timing belt change soon. Thank you for your advice. I shall keep the golf plus I have a 3 year old and a 3 month old.
I was going to buy a M6 GC, then I heard the engines are chocolate. I'm also not sure 500hp in these large family cars is going to make me happy (previously owned an Alfa 4c which has spoilt everything!)

Avoiding the sniffy response from those of us too jaded to remember the happy times before children….. (just kidding).
We owned an MX5 before our daughter was born. A two seater wasn’t going to cut it for three of us, so we bought a hatchback (Mazda 3).
This did the job just fine - buggy would go in the boot (all of the boot..!), plenty of room for the car seat in the back
As always, a hatchback is usually the best answer, so there’s no need to change OP.
That said, I would say that four doors is much easier than two (but not essential). And SUVs are easier because you’re bending down less. But actually that isn’t much of a challenge. On the whole I wouldn’t say a child arriving requires you to change your car - you only need to change if you want to (or don’t have enough seats like us..!).

No point listening to me for advice the closest myself & the OH got to a practical car was getting a saloon for the second child, the first had to make do with a coupe! BUT in our defence the rear seats folded for all those dads out there, when you heard of news of the new arrival, did you start looking to get a bigger vehicle? (ie SUV etc)
What would you advice be to soon to be new dad(s) about vehicle buying for new borns.
Currently I have a VW golf plus.
In reality the coupes were plenty big enough, the OH would have the all singing Recaro in the front of hers & when we went out as a family I'd have a regular child seat for him in back of mine.
