Doesn't matter what's suggested OP will just get the opposite smile

Joking aside, OP, it's good you finally realise it's just not worth trying to keep up with the Jones and there are other better value makes available.
It will take a while before I can put all this great advice into practice as there is about £1600 negative equity to iron itself out, but the penny has dropped re Audi. I went on their PCP calculator and the APR was something like 11%!

Cupra Formentor? - V2 is decent spec, petrol, automatic with 4 wheel drive. Just don’t go for the 1.5 or hybrid engines. The VZ spec will also take you over the £40k luxury car tax rip-off.
We just changed to a 4 month old V2 190TSI 4 drive. Criteria was had to be automatic, petrol & 4 wheel drive (oh and heated seats!)

I've got a RAV4. 2.5L petrol self-charging hybrid and it's currently averaging 45MPG. It's FWD but has an option for AWD in 'trail mode'.
Comfy, drives well, plenty of cabin space. It's automatic and my only real gripe is that it can be slow to change up gears, but it's not a massive issue. The 'urban khaki' colour gets plenty of compliments too
What gears? It's a CVT is it not?

We went from a Peugeot 5008 to a Q5 and were left underwhelmed by the Audi. The drivetrain was a different level on the Audi, but the interior of the Pug was much more interesting and the build quality was very similar. Probably wouldn't have another Q5 but would have another Pug.

Would recommend looking at the 5008/3008. They've had a facelift since we had ours so not entirely sure of the specs these days, but the GT level used to have every toy you'd ever want - including massage seat!
We had a fairly basic 3008 on holiday, it still had apple car play, a reversing camera and some sort of diesel engine that did loads of km on not much fuel, albeit it was no ball of fire.

Nice interior and decent styling for a midi-suv. Surprisingly good.

Sorry, I didn't explain that very well. Yes it's a CVT and I meant it revs incredibly high when you put your foot down as it's goes up the fake "gears". It just seems to hold the high revs for longer than feels natural

I know what you mean. I drove a Toyota Highlander with the same engine and gearbox. The engine noise is far from unpleasant and it reaches speed quickly so I'm not sure if it would bother me long term. I'm undecided.

I know an estate isn't top if your list, but a Passat estate is my answer to most of these questions. Well equipped, bloody huge boot, loads of room the in back.
