Morning!

I'm in the market for a car for my daughter, who's gonna start university in September. Safety is my top concern, so I'm looking for something that's super safe on the road. You know how parents worry! But I also want to be environmentally conscious, so I'm on the hunt for a car that's energy efficient too. Gotta do our part, right? I want her to have a reliable and eco-friendly ride for her university adventure. Any suggestions?

Also I'm looking for any discounts or decent financing options as I'll be paying for her car until she's finished uni and starts her first grind! The Mrs is a nurse but I couldn't see any discounts for purchasing cars for relatives...

Thanks in advance!

Second hand Dacia or similar, running an older car
Must be more eco friendly then ordering a new one!

"A safe energy efficient car with decent handling"

BMW 320D efficientydynamics, either E90 or F30 models. Both are very safe, both handle very well, both do a realistic 60+mpg in day to day driving and both will top 70mpg if you're trying.

But I think what you're actually looking for is not what you wrote into the title. It should probably read "a cheap, safe first car for my daughter".
Handling shouldn't be on your list really.

If you fancy something a bit out of the ordinary (the eco-PistonHeads choice, if you like), how about a Honda Insight Mk.1?

Older, but Honda's legendary reliability, won't depreciate, handles well... and being a 2-seater she won't be under pressure to give lifts to pubs and parties for a car full of drug and alcohol-fueled fellow students.

The most energy efficient car is the one that suits her usage best, so what type of usage will your daughter be doing?
