i haven driven now all of them as C2. The 997.2 and the 991.1 / 991.2. For me the 997. As always it depend why you buying it I think.
For me the 991.1 is the preferred. The sound wins it for me and in performance I don't think there is much difference

A 991.1 C2 GTS is going to be a lovely thing to drive.
The newer turbocharged ones will be quicker, but as someone said in another thread, you can't use the full power of these cars much on the roads anyway, so the throttle response, free revving and and howl from that NA F6 will keep you interested for longer I think. Apart from the GT3s, they're the last of the breed.
I keep an eye on these on AT regularly and there's a small if steady stream of nice ones knocking about. Be interested to see what you end up in

Agree with the above completely - I actually ended up with a 991.1 Turbo S (I'd always wanted a Turbo as a child) and you certainly can't use the full power of those either. 991.1 GTS is definitely a sweet spot! A 991.1 C2 GTS is going to be a lovely thing to drive.

@mzinuk01 not sure if you'd consider a Targa, but there's a nice looking Targa 4 GTS on Shooting Brake at the moment, it has 2 years Porsche Warranty too: https://shootingbrake.com/Listing/Details/33888

Porsche's are really starting to soften now as the finance rates, CoL and the ramped up production rates really start to bite.
If you've cash on the hip and not in a rush I'd hold out for a bit. Deals to be made as the situation worsens and winter rolls in.

Targa's are very nice and good for holding their value I read.
Not sure about auctions though. Just don't know enough about them.
Would be curious to learn. I am sure there bargains sometimes if you know what you are doing
Yes, Targa's are great for holding their value, great middle ground between Coupe & convertible plus they look stunning. Not sure about auctions though. Just don't know enough about them.

Understand the point on the auction approach, however the car I linked to is covered by the Porsche extended warranty. Buying a car with the Porsche warranty is the safest way to buy outside of Porsche Approved used. The extended warranty can only transfer with private sales, if a car went into the trade the warranty becomes voided sadly. Buying from a specialist like I did, meant I had to wait 90 days until I could put the car through the OPC 111 point check to be eligible to take out the warranty. Auctions like Shooting Brake & Collecting Cars simply introduce you to the seller and therefore allow the warranty to transfer, you'd be making payment directly to the seller (although you would pay the buyers fee / premium directly to the auction company).

Thanks! Indeed, definitely a bucket list thing for me. I'd always loved the 911 Turbo since I was about 7 years old, lusted after owning a Porsche for so long (even back to 944 S2, 968 & Boxters), when I finally got to the position to buy a 911, I originally set out to get a C4 S but got a little carried away! Not a GTS but this Targa 4S is well optioned including PCCB and sports exhaust/18 way sports+ seats/bose etc... sold by 911virgin who have a solid rep. (no idea on the price good or bad)

On the PCCB I recall driving the range of 991.1 GTS when they launched at the PEC, the standout for me was how sweeter the PCCB equipped car drove compared to the steels felt so much lighter on its feet.

Also in terms of the number plate it depends what type of plate you want and naturally budget too.
DVLA is the best source for new / previously unissued numbers, as that's where all plates start essentially. You can also request certain combinations that they may release into an auction too.
However, there is a huge resale market for previously issued plates. I'm quite into plates so more than happy to offer any advice / guidance, feel free to drop me a PM.

Bit pricey but the perfect plate for a 991 gts. It actually went through dvla auctions the other month and fetched £2800
