We have 1 car, no kids but a fairly large dog. Hatchbacks aren't big enough as that's what we have at present and the dog ends up on the back seats! Minimum 10 mile journeys mostly a and b roads

£10kish budget
Reliable, happy with maintenance obviously
Heated seats
Auto
Bluetooth
Comfy over our rubbish roads
BMW X1 is supposedly the UK's fastest selling used car.... saw a few go through auction yesterday at good prices

Ive previously had a mini clubman and a volvo v50 for similar purposes, both very comfortable heated seats.

Wait till you see what the low mileage ones go for ... you'll choke on your bks

They are all prepped well here though, all have new belts and water pump and a service before sale. They are like cockroaches and will go on and on and on if looked after.
I'm a massive Volvo fan and love the xc90 but I'd never claim they are the most reliable vehicle of their type. Go check the VOC pages for evidence of this. 10k on a vehicle of this type would be a Lexus RX or Toyota RAV4 with my own money.
I could check it for issues with cars mistreated and run on a shoestring budget..... but I CBA.
What a polite, well reasoned response. Thank you.

Both lexus and Toyota are ugly inside and out! The rav 4 is proper basic!

I drive a van all week and want to get in something decent.

It can't be ignored that they are really reliable of course!

Anything with a bit of luxury?

I was looking at touregs xc60's audi all roads to name a few, are they unreliable compared to the suggestions?

I only say this as I can't get excited about driving a Honda or Vaux! I accept they fit the brief given but so tha ks for the suggestions!
If you want luxury then here's where I'd be looking:

QX70 30d GT:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202306268...

Grand Cherokee Summit:

Limited:

I really like those QX models, you get one with a big V8 don't you? Absolute oddball

Audi A4/A6 will be fine.

Anything Toyota will also be fine. Avensis.

Golf estate?

Mondeo, whatever the top spec is, has a lot of toys and is a decent place to be.

Each to their own. IMO the volvo interior and dash are the most hideous things going.

Each to their own indeed thankfully. I'd take a Lux spec Volvo over a Toyota Avensis 5 days a week and twice at weekends.

Now that is interesting, I've never thought of Volvo as a 'luxury' brand. Sure, nowadays with 100k xc90s and the lije, by definition they must be, but its not a word I associate with the brand. Saab and Volvo however, and I know its a cliche, have had the comfiest seats of any cars I've owned.

Edit. It's amazing how brands move in public perception. A volvo is definitely a 'premium' brand yet I guess because of the ones I've owned, I've always thought of them as a quality brand that produced pretty basic designs (Amazon, 164, 245, 700 series, 900 series etc....). The newest one I've had was an absolutely wonderful s80 d5 manual, a brilliant car for the money many years ago. I'm not sure how many I've had now, maybe a dozen or thereabouts, brilliant marque, brilliant history. Kinda sad to see the quality diminish as of late, if reports are to be believed.

so the xc90 seems to be topping the list!

It looks like I will be around £12k realistically + £500 in boot liner and dog guard.

Try to find one from a retailer like Mr. Deuces suggested, or find one that has obviously been cherished by a Volvo man. They are brilliant things for sure, enjoy.

I dont have any time this week otherwise I have seen one that's perfect! £13k but it is literally exactly what I want and from a dealer! Unfortunately I don't have time to go and see it!

I am in no rush, so will be looking for a car with great history and lowish owners!

I have no links other than having bought from Graham and he's worked on our cars as our local indy, but he's a decent guy and stands behind his cars. He'll source one for you if you want, also. May be useful if you're short of time?
