Just bought a 2018 Q5 from Cinch. Very good price etc.

It's arrived but has a few niggles which are bugging me

  • Condensation in rear bottom tail light
  • condensation on windscreen
  • car has mud in speakers
  • car has no car mats
  • parts of the car interior are a bit damp
  • loads of tree bits in the boot and footwell area
Cinch are happy to get it a full interior valet and fix the niggles.

But should I just reject? I don't know if normal but seem to think its been flood repaired?

Sounds more like it’s just been heavily valeted to tidy up a dirtier than normal cabin - mats were probably knackered so they just chucked them out.

If you can reject it without hassle then why not but the issues don’t seem too horrendous to me.

The mud in the speakers is a funny one. How else would mud get there? If your gut feeling says get rid, do it quick.

Depends which speakers, off shoes if door speakers?

Sounds like they are trying to put it right, give them a chance

Is there any further evidence that it may have been in a flood?

Sounds like the exact opposite to me and not entirely surprising as preparation work costs money. Ie; not enough effort in cleaning and preparing the car - hence the offer to valet it.

Reject it ? Why? This sort of buying approach is strange! Or maybe you should only buy a brand new car so it’s perfect.

did you do a vcheck type report on the vehicle ?

not sure you can go straight to reject without giving them a chance to resolve the issues ?

There is a couple of points that just alarm me condensation on the windscreen and damp.

Does the car have any kind of water ingress?

Personally just reject imo. It could be entirely innocent or a world of pain. Having seen what some went through with the infamous f10/f11 yellow grommet then water ingress is a real annoyance.

I even had some water ingress in my mx5 due to a misshapen boot vent that allowed water in at the correct angles.

So it has a bit of condensation, is a bit dirty and has no mats.

And this is cause to consider rejection nowadays? What have we come to.

Get them to clean it properly and drive it. If it gives you issues, you have plenty of time to reject it later.

Amazed when looking for a 1st car for our son, a national chain with a "1st time buyers section" they didn't clean or prep any of the cars on sale, said they would be prepared once sold and prior to collection.
Didn't buy from them, bought an immaculately prepared VW Up from a different dealer. If they can't be bothered to even clean them what else are they neglecting to do?

Get a hoover
Get a big bag of silica for condensation.
Tail light at worst needs a slick of silicon over a crack. Pull it out take out all the bulbs and dry it out with a hairdryer or over night in front of a radiator.
Muddy speakers can be dealt with by giving them a brush.
Buy some car mats you cheapskate.

To those suggesting that rejection is silly, from a normal dealer, I might agree with you but Cinch is different.

All cars are bought unseen and delivered to you, and they offer a 14 day no-quibble return policy if you don’t like it for any reason. They’d probably be more of a pain to work with to get the issues resolved, beyond the valet they’ve already offered.

https://www.cinch.co.uk/returns

OP, if you’re not happy and you have suspicions, then just return it.

Sadly some dealers prep cars until they are sold just incase they don't sell and need to go to auction.

If this is the case and you can prove that it has become waterised you have every reason to reject it because 12 months from now the circuits and electronics will start to fail due to their previous drowning

They are never the same again after this has happened

Send it back.

Damp inside, yet clearly not been valeted if tree bits all around.

Mud in speakers?

What are they thinking sending a car to you in that condition?

Quite probably flood residue, don't take a chance, just buy another one.

You have 14 days to tell them you don't want to keep it, from the day they dropped it off to you.

You don't even have to give them a reason

Thanks all for the advice.

neighbour gave it a thorough once over, appears to have rust under seat rails, dampness in boot, all consistent with some form of water damage.

will be rejecting it now.

was previously on private number plate S33LOT (now on a q3).
