As an M2 OG LCI owner I’d suggest having a good think about swapping to a comp and good long test drive (maybe multiple days).
I’m a massive fan of both cars and looked at both when I purchased last year and I’m fortunate enough to get to drive a Comp since purchasing my M2 and doing a back to back.
The Comp isn’t much different standard than the OG and certainly not the improvement you might be expecting. It weighs more so the difference is 0.1 of a sec to 60. The engine although the S55 behaves the same as the N55 in the OG not the same as the M3/4 engine (which is mega).
The general thought is they are both 5/5 cars but different flavours. The OG M2 is more of an experience it’s lighter, sounds better, more raw and generally pretty bullet proof. The Comp was toned down a bit and is more M4 like with nicer seats and an engine with way more potential when tuning, it is very slightly quicker and the weight makes it more comfortable and settled. If tuning go the M2 Comp and just make sure to get the crankhub done.
The OG M2 is more 1M while the M2 Comp is more M4 essentially.
Recommend the M2 forum on Facebook if you aren’t on it.
Personally as I’m now expecting my first child I’ve been noseying at an M5 but can’t bring myself to let the M2 go as it’s basically an adult RWD Fiesta ST.

Meh, all these cars are boring day to day coupe/saloons but with big engines. Unless driving like a hooligan or on track they're going to feel like the equivalent diesel.
Would you consider a 997?

It certainly wouldn't be where I would look to spend £45k for that purpose no. Each to their own though.
In defence the M2 is absolutely brilliant. It’s small, powerful, reliable and a barrel of laughs.
Some people can’t see past it being a coupe but it’s a proper riot of sports car.
It gets knocked by people who haven’t drove it for some reason despite everyone who has saying it’s brilliant.
It’s basically a RWD Fiesta ST with serious performance.
Admittedly it’s not the best daily driver as it’s too stiff, rattles a lot, too loud, rubbish mpg and way to lively to drive.
I had this sort of budget a few years ago and went to a C63S AMG coupe, fell in love with the noise to be honest. It handles well, is still fun a low speeds, goes like stink and is a handful when you want it to be.
Originally I wanted a 991.1 or 997.2 911 but found they lacked the drama at normal road speeds and at the £45-£50k mark are starting to become older cars.
I found a AMG GTS which would have been my first choice but at this price point they will be ropey / leggy / both.
The C63 has been fairly cheap to run (in the scheme of things) fuel/brakes/tyres/servicing can be eyewatering but outside of the service schedule its had a coil pack and aux belts changed which probably cost c.£600 in total. Find a good indy as Mercedes (AMG specialist technician) labour rates are unreal.
Yes its just a C class with a big engine but its an epic engine and drive train. Its 3 inches wider than a normal coupe and 2 inches longer to contain the drivetrain. The chassis has been beefed up, the steering, brakes, e-diff, adjustable engine mounts and body panels (excluding the doors and boot lid) are unique. It makes me smile and laugh like a kid even when its an early cold and rainy Monday morning and I am on my way to see a painful customer or get chewed out by my boss and to me that's what its all about.

Does an m2 make a special enough car just to do 3k a year in?
Genuine question. I've been considering one.
I think the M2's a lovely car but personally I've always thought of M-cars as performance cars to be used every day. Ok,different if it's an older classic like, say, an E30 M3 or an E46 M3 CSL, but personally I wouldn't pick an M2C as a toy to supplement a daily driver and do only 3k miles a year in it - IMHO that's what things like a Lotus or a Caterham are for!Genuine question. I've been considering one.
However, if you do a low annual mileage and want only one car - and that one car also has to be reasonably practical when required - then yes, an M2 would fit the bill nicely.

I was thinking of specifically something like a 997.2 C2S or a 991.1 C2 / S if budget permits. They get under your skin and feel like a proper sports car to drive... because that's exactly what they are and were designed to be. But you're welcome to disagree of course. I would have also suggested a 981 S / GTS if he didn't need back seats.10mmspanners said:

All of this. It'll vary from person to person. One person's M2 is another person's 911 which is another person's C63. Whatever it is, find the car that makes you feel like that <snip>
