Hi all,

The shortlist should give an idea of what I am after. The Mazda made the shortlist as I have a real soft spot for them. The model is due to cabin space requirements as the Mazda 6 doesn't have enough rear passenger legroom. I plan to own this car for 4 years.

Skoda Superb Estate L&K 4x4 [276PS] (2018)
Jaguar XF S Portfolio Sportbrake [275PS] (2014)
Audi A6 AllRoad BiTDi [313PS] (2014)
Mazda CX5 [175PS] (2017)

So firstly, am I missing any alternatives? I know someone will say the 530d Touring and funnily enough that is what was my first choice when I started to jot down what I needed from my next car. However I just don't feel them now that I have seen some of the alternatives above. The requirements are a big boot (hence the Estates), at least 40 inches of rear passenger legroom and a nice drive that puts a smile on my face. The previous car before my current was the Santa Fe and that ticked all of the boxes expect the last. Never again!

Next is running costs. I suspect the Jag and Audi will cost more than the Skoda and Mazda. Should I listen to the horror stories or is it a case of find one that has had a great service history and they are all a much of a muchness? I will be running up to 20k a year (so looking at doing 80k in total), mostly motorway miles so whatever is on the clock isn't really an issue for me as I suspect I'll need to change all of the usual stuff at some point, or is it?

Look forward to seeing what you come back with.

The XF will be the best steer from your list & they're a reliable car too, Portfolio trim is great too.

An alternative to the Superb is the 2.0T Insignia 260bhp AWD:

Or rather than the Allroad why not go for the regular A6 Avant BiTDI:

Not seen the Vauxhall come up in any comparison videos I've watched so thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out and see how to stands up.

I didn't think the Avant would be big enough purely due to the fact the Allroad version exists. If it has the legroom in the back then I can add it into the mix.

The Allroad uses the same platform as the A6.

They also do a BiTDI Insignia but like the 2.0T they're rare:

E-class estate? Option of RWD or AWD. Large boot. Petrol or diesel engines.

They also do an all terrain version, which are like hens teeth right now.

That much cash for an insignia estate? Madness. 7.5 to 60 is hardly a lot to shout about, rare or otherwise...

You've not said what your budget is so a bit hard to judge, but IMO the answer is Volvo V90 D5
