Dog transport??
Discussion
Hi,
I'm some now in the position (or will be soon) of having 4 medium size dogs (3 collies X and a Heinz 57).
Current car is a Volvo V90 Cross Country which has a big enough boot for 3 of them but not the 4th.
I'm thinking of getting a something else to transport them around and keep the Volvo for other stuff.
Budget for 2nd vehicle is around 10k, or 35k if I trade in the Volvo as well.
Must have good ground clearance as I live on a knackered old farm track.
Most of the time I only drive 10-20 per day with a few longer trips thrown in.
Petrol would be preferred but not critical.
I know nothing about vans and which would be suitable to us for dog transport, any recommendations would be great.
If anyone has any great ideas, please let me know!
Cheers

Oldish Forester with the seats folded? Do you take the dogs and 3 passengers regularly?
Forester could be an option, also some of the big 4x4s without rear seats I guess. Or a pickup (but not so keen on those lol). We don't often have a 3rd passenger but we do carry lots of our kit on the rear seats, so not an option.

Can't you just fold the seats in the Volvo?
We use a hammock on the back seat.
...
I'd rather not. We use a hammock on the back seat.

My dogs, my car, my hammock, my photo...
...the way these hammocks work in the real world when you've got a couple of slightly disturbed mutts.
This. Tried a couple of different ones. At least one dog ends up under the front seat or on the seat under the hammock with the other dog sat on top... Good idea though!...the way these hammocks work in the real world when you've got a couple of slightly disturbed mutts.

Left field suggestion, Citroen Berlingo (or other version of this, eg Peugeot.)
Just picked one around your suggested budget, gone for petrol due to frequent low mileage, lots more diesels available, also lower prices.

Don't laugh, it's a dog van. Even ex mobility versions with ramp.

I know they're often not good to drive, but they fill exactly what you're after.

It sounds like you need a twin-cab pickup with a top really, ground clearance + lots of kit + big doggos.

Yea I do agree but the wife would kill me. She had one many moons ago and I made her sell it to buy me something else I know they're often not good to drive, but they fill exactly what you're after.

With a ramp might be useful! One of them is getting a bit old and has knackered knees. Just picked one around your suggested budget, gone for petrol due to frequent low mileage, lots more diesels available, also lower prices.

Here's one, bit scruffy inside, but cheap. It's a dog van.
