Hi,

I'm some now in the position (or will be soon) of having 4 medium size dogs (3 collies X and a Heinz 57).

Current car is a Volvo V90 Cross Country which has a big enough boot for 3 of them but not the 4th.
I'm thinking of getting a something else to transport them around and keep the Volvo for other stuff.

Budget for 2nd vehicle is around 10k, or 35k if I trade in the Volvo as well.
Must have good ground clearance as I live on a knackered old farm track.
Most of the time I only drive 10-20 per day with a few longer trips thrown in.
Petrol would be preferred but not critical.

I know nothing about vans and which would be suitable to us for dog transport, any recommendations would be great.
If anyone has any great ideas, please let me know!

Cheers

Are they crated? Do you use the back seats at the same time?

Not crated and prefer to keep them off the back seat.

Oldish Forester with the seats folded? Do you take the dogs and 3 passengers regularly?

Can't you just fold the seats in the Volvo?

We use a hammock on the back seat.

Not my dog, my car, my hammock or my photo:

Forester could be an option, also some of the big 4x4s without rear seats I guess. Or a pickup (but not so keen on those lol).

We don't often have a 3rd passenger but we do carry lots of our kit on the rear seats, so not an option.

...the way these hammocks work in the real world when you've got a couple of slightly disturbed mutts.

So you don't want to fold the seats in the Volvo, but you'd buy a Subaru and fold the sests in that?

Just buy another car, because that's obviously what you want to do. rolleyes

This. Tried a couple of different ones. At least one dog ends up under the front seat or on the seat under the hammock with the other dog sat on top... Good idea though!

How can they move ?

(I hope they are restrained - I think my wife still has the injury pictures of an RTA with a dog flying around the inside)

Left field suggestion, Citroen Berlingo (or other version of this, eg Peugeot.)

Just picked one around your suggested budget, gone for petrol due to frequent low mileage, lots more diesels available, also lower prices.

Don't laugh, it's a dog van. Even ex mobility versions with ramp.

It sounds like you need a twin-cab pickup with a top really, ground clearance + lots of kit + big doggos.

I know they're often not good to drive, but they fill exactly what you're after.

Yea I do agree but the wife would kill me. She had one many moons ago and I made her sell it to buy me something else smile

With a ramp might be useful! One of them is getting a bit old and has knackered knees.

Petrol ex mobility are not so numerous.

Here's one, bit scruffy inside, but cheap. It's a dog van.

Leftfield hard-to-find classic options - a Peugeot 505 estate or Citroen CX equivalent

Pug has a third row of seats that you could fold/remove.

Or an old hearse? hehe
