Private or dealer?

I have been looking for a mid teens (2014 - 2017) Yaris.
The private cars for sale are hard work. Not properly listed, is it hybrid, or not? Does it have a spare wheel or a tube of gunk? and so on.
So I look at the non main dealers. Chips, cracks and scratches, when you point it out, "Don't worry, we will fix that". Well, why don't you fix it now?
Which then brings me to the main dealers. Who have properly listed cars, but all a bit dearer.
What to do for the best?
