The wonderful thing is that really works. I have witnessed it, nay, done it in our MX5 NC. Took it to a track day after several months of MrsH pottering about in it. First few laps it was as flat as a fart and I though “this is rubbish” but then slowly, lap after lap, it began to produce more power. By the time I fancied a cuppa it was producing all 170 bhp and putting a smile back on my face.
I've had that experience with a few low milers, a good kicking really loosens them up. Lots of the BCA hatchbacks I impulse buy run like crap for a little while and then sort themselves out with some proper use, it makes me wonder how many are getting traded it for poor running when really it's because they've not been driven for more than 10 minutes in the last decade.I've also had coolant hoses explode on me the first time out. The two things might be related.
Back on topic, I experienced the same a number of times; I'd delight in taking my uncle's E30 325i Sport for a fast run on the motorway and it was so sweet revving after a good thrashing. Even better was the S124 E320 loan vehicle that I was given to take to Scotland, fully laden, whilst my E500 was with an awful Merc Indy in Richmond upon Thames. I was sorely disappointed, having read all the eulogies on PH in/around the erstwhile R129SL's thread and the previous volumes of this thread (when it was relevant) until around the Lancaster services on the M6 and I distinctly recall at some point the engine just seemed to relax and it was absolutely flying and running so well.

Friday price and suitably low mileage for Genius :

What on earth has someone got an S500 for 18 years to do 20m a day in !?https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/16564733
Certainly not exec taxi, or even occasional in town work related trips.
Of course it could be 118k which will be nicely run in or not so good 218k. Or indeed any random number if it’s been clocked.

Maths update, 18,000 miles in 18 years is ~3 miles/day, not 20. biggbn said:

Depends what you think of low mileage older cars. I've bought 8 of them over the years. When selling you can ask for a bit more as long as you've not erased the mileage advantage. While I owned them I enjoyed having such a clean example of the model rather than the cheapest one.
I use all my cars a lot so any advantage in low miles is gone almost immediately, but I have also found that a lot of very low mileage cars drive poorly compared to a mid miles well loved example, too many short runs, urban use, not sure what it is but they often don't live up to my hopes. As you say they're very easy to sell though.
The E63/E64 6 series looks and feels like a very old car now, and not in the good way, you'd have to really be pitching a trouser tent for that particular model and the lowest possible miles to pay for that one I think, a couple of grand more spent on an F06 6 series with twice the miles (which is still low mileage) would make it look very naff indeed I think.

First picture (hopefully) is of the railway station hotel in Ashbourne. Posted just for how nice it is.
The other photo’s are of a house in a village we stayed in last week near Alton Towers. There were 3 or four more cars behind the Alpine.
The damage to the corner of the property (in the picture with the Humber) was done by an HGV trailer; he took the insurance payout and just didn’t get the house repaired!

This is a max £6,500 car for me. I’d say thread top, but the low mileage warrants a little extra.

So meticulous that they left the cracking perished tyres on for years if you read the full MOT history.“Meticulously maintained…” reads the assuring description
The presence of knackered tyres for so long makes me think the mileage might be genuine. Maybe it's lived in London hence the brakes wearing so soon and the driver's seat being stretched?

Went down to garage to confirm and yup, it's sold. They have a lovely 2009 registered but older shape Accord saloon, 2.4i vtec, bog standard, 40k miles, full leather, auto....asking 7995!!!!! Would be a lovely old car to Swan around in but crikey
That they probably gave 799 for Thread needs to help this person too, the obvs answer being "buy both"
