Crikey, just goes to show where the market is. I wonder if the seller will back out and we'll see it relisted?

There's a nice Avus blue 728i I've had an eye on, price was pushing £7k, now £6k, 150k miles but looks very well cared for, but £6k seems way too steep still, can't see anyone offering over £3500 for it to be honest, £4k at a push. A few months ago I was in the position to purchase (spending £5k on some windows and having a month off work on SSP with a broken ankle has ended that) I sent the seller a message, very nice chap, but it also has a battery drain issue which means it can't stand for more than about a week.

That'd be dogst slow though wouldn't it. I can hear the steadily increasing hum of revs taking a week to build as I'm typing this. I suspect that's probably the reason it's hanging around / going nowhere fast! Really like the way it looks and the interior is nice (could do with a bit of leather treatment). Just needs a v8 or v12 to make it perfect.

The whole car is cool. The only thing with a car like this and it's a problem for a lot of classics is that they're made of paper, in an accident they fold up like a piece of Japanese origami and you'd definitely die. This thread about barges which I like to buy and salivate over generally covers the full size executive cars of 15 to 20 years ago and they tend to be pretty safe... another good reason for barging, as if it wasn't already a closed case!

These cars look a huge risk if these are the sort of purchase prices going around.

Imagine trying to sell one on and not lose a fortune? You could be waiting years.

That’s one for Macron — what’s preferable, a safe diesel barge or a tin can French death trap with footrests?

ps. How are you doing Macron?

I used to have a 728i, fast it was not but it was smooth and adequate to keep up with traffic, would happily sit at 90+ on the motorway in silence. Robust lump in them at least.

I'd happily have another, but not at £6k.

Much as I love a CX (or most older Citroens) I can't help but think that at £15k that's a bit toppy for something that looks a bit tired.

Fair point about motorway cruising ability. I tend to forget about that as most of my driving is NSL country roads. Cruising on the motorway at a decent speed is easy enough with 192hp... it's just the getting there that's not.

Yes, may not be well suited for that but based on my time with a 728i I’d concur it was an excellent barge and lovely to cover decent miles in, all while being very reasonable to run.

Paging 21stCenturyMan - I’ve only just learned of this feature on the Century; a magnetic area on the steering column to stop your pesky additional keys from jangling about and disturbing the serenity in your cabin.

It is the ultimate evolution of the small rubber pad fitted for the same purpose I recall on my Golf from 30 years ago![url]

Yep, and they're surprisingly economical on the motorway, too. I do wonder if I were to drive one now whether I'd find it too slow. I sold mine in 2013 I think.
