Yet another unicorn S211 E500 with the larger M273 5.5L V8 -- albeit 20% over budget. This one looks quite nice without having undertaken any requisite MOT checks, ofc.
The volume of recent E500 estate sales is curious... could be coincidence, or perhaps running such a thirsty old Merc with increased inflation and the subsequent squeeze on budgets... perhaps the transition to EV?
No link? No idea RE transition to EV to be honest! Interesting thought though. I suspect not, given its lack of use recently, in this case. hereThe image is the link, but because of reasons it doesn't work if you click the image after it's been quoted, has to be the original post

Very smart looking thing, though lack of heated seats seems odd on a '500. Maybe they spent all their budget on the engine and had nothing left for extras.
Also, of all the things that have aged badly in the last 20 years, integrated screens in the back of headrests must be the worst. Thankfully it seems like it was a short lived craze, but they just look awful now.
Are they better or worse than the 5" blurry dim LCD on a stick that constituted a £3k "rear screen entertainment package" in cars like the W220 and Phaeton? Also, of all the things that have aged badly in the last 20 years, integrated screens in the back of headrests must be the worst. I think they only stopped because people who can't spend more than 3 minutes without watching something on a screen wanted something bigger than you can fit in a headrest, so now it's a larger screen that on some cars, but obviously not something as tacky and classless as W222 S-Class, hides away in the backrest.
Or, for the ultimate council house on wheels experience, the new 7 series can be equipped with a 31" screen that folds down from the ceiling.
I've had a few barges with "rear seat entertainment systems" and once we've all laughed at how quickly they've dated they rarely get used. The best/worst was in an S-Type Jaguar that didn't actually have any sort of TV tuner or DVD player to go with it so could only play things from a composite aux source of some sort. The screens were so bad I was surprised to find out they were TFT and not some dual scan panels Jaguar found in a skip.

True, the back of the seat mount is no better, and that one in the W220 is disgusting, but at least those are removable. They are removable, right?...

right?
when I finally attain the pinnacle of life and can afford to buy an ageing Range Rover / XJR, so help me god, it will not have those wretched head rest screens.

A very cheap, or very expensive, route into S600 ownership…
One for GoL, surely:

Someone will buy it though.
You would have to be seriously brave to buy that car. It has all the complexities of a turbocharging system TWICE. That's on top of the already hugely complex engine bay you would find in a normally aspirated Mercedes of that era.
Also... frankly, looking at the prices being asked for newer versions on Autotrader this old 2006 model is still over priced at £5k. You can get a 2010 car with no declared faults (and thousands of undeclared faults) for around the £10k mark.

ETA: link correction.
That is rather nice. I remember sitting in the back of an identical car for a long journey when they were current. It was brand new and belonged to one of the senior managers - we were going off on a jolly somewhere. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226042738847?mkcid=16&a...

You just forget they are there, and are standard fit on top spec X351 XJs and probably FFRRs too. I'm surprised how thorough the system in my X351 is, it comes with three independent digital TV tuners, three DAB tuners, and three FM tuners so all three passengers can listen to or watch different stuff independently with the front passenger using the dual view feature of the nav screen. I've not bothered finding out if they can all play something different from a USB stick at the same time though.right?

I think it's been used twice.

Memory seats for when Mrs Nobrakes borrows it, and a stereo of sorts. That’s enough bling.

Glacier green with Navy velour is an unusual, but quite pleasant one.
