Lovely.

Needs a map, travelling rug, and a metal AA badge though.

Would be well received on the 0-5 classics thread.
It's got a bit of the old boys' living room carpet in the boot, and I've got an old RAC badge somewhere...

Fab colour but it is not a 1998 MY (imported it says FWIW).

I had no idea that Cream of Mushroom Soup was a colour option on the Stuttgart colour chart?
My wife loathes mushrooms, so that one is not an option for me. whistle

Seems to be plenty of W211 and W212 Merc estates around too thread these days

Eg

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404158...

It covers the classic run-out v 1st gen of the new model period.

The W212s do look much newer and do look more than just over 5grands worth of motor.

359 V6 diesels must be pretty quick at changing lanes on the motorway.

A rare barge sighting today

But what's this...

Uh-oh, these aren't going to be around for much longer if they rust like that. I was surprised to see my neighbours 2008 9-3 rust away, GM really did ruin that company very thoroughly.

Not uncommon on Insignias..It's a real shame they're so utterly GM.

They do go well but the gearbox is clunky, fuel consumption is nowhere near great and every year there are expensive niggles that need sorting such as thermostat last year for mine.
They aren't ULEZ compliant and compared to a 210, the boot isn't that big, either.
Can you tell I don't particularly love my 212?

Thank you Woody, it's mine. Am thinking of doing another "Christmas tree Cayenne" style ad for it but every time I either look at it or drive it cannot bring my self to be deprecating about it. Great cars and it is a great colour. Think Bornite light.

If you want to see it properly photographed-just look for original ad when I got it (google R129 Rosewood) looks stunning.

Actually, given the amount of muppets that are contacting me, I think I am going to go full Xmas tree on it this weekend.

Oh yes do.

Didn't realise they made new Mercs in appealing colours, although this is.. I don't know what but has a very long name.

Only five letters in "a turd"?

A 1.3 FWD slug shaped car with vinyl seats. I can feel the image and prestige from here.

Exactly when it happened is a matter for debate but I think it's fair to say cars have jumped the shark.

Those were getting mad values in COVID for such an ordinary car, but they're back to £800 now where they belong.

If a dealer can make a living selling cars like that for that sort of money more power to them, they ought to take a list of their customers and make them pay more tax though, they clearly have too much money hehe

Modern cars may be almost exclusively miserable, but at least interesting colours have become fashionable again.

The CLA looks like a child's ride-on toy with the seat removed. I genuinely cannot understand how anyone thinks they have ever looked good.

I'm closer to understanding the Flat Earthers, than I am the mental gymnastics one would need to perform in order to spend so much money on that.

The young chap who lives next to me "upgraded" from an A160 AMG Line to a CLA180 AMG Line and couldn't be happier with the step up.

Still makes me chuckle how Mercedes made a:

Exterior design: Nice
Shape overall: Nice
Colour options: Nice
Finish: Nice
Engine choice: Nice
Steering wheel design: Oh my god kill me now and everyone I’ve ever cared about this is the worst thing I’ve ever seen and I’d rather walk.
Rear light cluster: Nice

I plumped for a run-out 211 320cdi a while ago instead of a stretching the budget a bit to a 212 200 or 220 (the first 320s were too much of a stretch).

Mechanics tell me the 211 is easier to work on as all newer cars come in for are software glitches, but I’ll end up having to upgrade at some stage.

The higher rear waistline of the 212 makes sense estate car wise.
