My wife currently drives a 2016 X5 40d, it's just hit 100k miles and whilst it's been generally reliable, we fancy a change. We don't have 7 seats atm but it would be handy now the kids are of an age where we're taking their friends places too.

Newer X5 with 7 seats? M50d?

XC90?

We keep looking at the Q7, yet to drive one though. Anything glaring I'm missing?

Budget of around £60k but don't have to spend it all. Wouldn't mind going petrol over the obvious diesel.

Few newish TFSI 55 knocking about around that price.

Just after safe, roomy, nice to look at and a decent enough drive - with 7 seats. Not a people carrier, I'm the wrong side of 40 for that.

GLE53?

Our GLE400d has 7 seats, so I presume that you can get 7 seats in the GLE53 AMG model as well.

We were in the same situation last year. In the end bought a AUC G05 X5 (with almost £20k in options) and been very pleased with it.

You could do the same and have change left over.

I bought a GLB35. 300hp and relatively compact dimensions as everything else was gargantuan.

I've also put a tow hitch on it.

Some great options there, I hadn't considered Mercedes and as much as I love the X5 we have now, I think we fancy a bit of a change even if I know it's a pretty safe bet.

Kia EV9, not a Kia fan and also don't want another EV, I'm considering getting rid of my Taycan atm.

I'm also done with Range Rovers, gave them a second chance after the first one proved a headache, regretted that.

I think this will come down to X5 M50d vs SQ7 vs GLS to be honest. I'm familiar with the M50d having driven one quite extensively but I've never sat in either of the others, anyone have any wisdom to chuck at me on these three before I start looking for stuff suitable locally?

Thanks for the help!

I'm a Mercedes fan & the GLS 400d has one of the sweetest drivetrains out there BUT I'd take the SQ7 as a package it's the better overall car out of the three.

The GLS has the nicest interior & the M50d is the better drive, with the SQ7 being somewhere in the middle what tips it for the outright win is the space & that engine is so suited to the car making every journey effortless.

That's just my opinion but test drive them all when your down to three you be mad not to try them all & see what suits you.

I think you might be right, but we will drive them all. I won't have the ultimate decision anyway, even if I can help steer it in the right direction.

XC90 was one of the best all round cars we’ve ever had. Don’t need 7 seats now, so moved on to experience other marques.

I think we'd be daft not to give it a go, a lot of people have recommended it now, including the wife's car loving cousin earlier today.

Definitely not electric thanks. My daily is electric and it's no good for longer drives when going away for the weekend, cba with the hassle.
