I had a GLE as a courtesy car and hated it. Felt horrible at 70mph, some cheap thin interior plastics creaking away and a weird lag when trying to pull out of junctions.

The BMW and Audi offerings look decent, but probably worth driving all of them.

I’ve been looking around at 7-seater replacements for our FFRR, and something to bear in mind with the XC90 is that it’s available with an integrated booster in the middle seat of the middle row. This makes the seat base high enough for a child of approx 6 years and older to use the normal belt meaning they don’t need a child seat. It seems as though only a smallish percentage were specced with it though.

Also as you’re talking about the more powerful models you’d probably want to choose the T8 Volvo which is properly quick.

Facelift LR Discovery 5 - the D300 is a lovely engine. I've heard the equivalent petrols are quite nice, too. Just stick to 6 cylinders.

Personally I'd be going for the GLS or X7, but just because I've not seen it mentioned - Genesis GV80?

I remember you, AB. We both had 330Ci Individuals - mine was Coloured Gold Metallic (aka Orange), and yours was Ruby Red II.

I bloody loved that E46, sold it when I was living/working in Manchester in what must have been 2009. Makes me feel old! The gearbox went about 2 weeks later, lucky escape.

To complete the thread, went with the Q7 but the 55 TFSI, we picked it up yesterday.

It's no SQ7 but the engine definitely suits it and it's got pretty much every option on it. The kids love the sunroof, I'm fascinated by soft close doors and the wife loves the colour.

Also in the market for a 7 seater to replace our aging MB Viano.
FOrget about the X5, its poorly packaged (from an interiour space perspective) as a 5 seater, as a 7 seater its a joke.
The GL/GLS, X7 and Q7 are a bit better but just huge on the outside. XC90 only comes with puny 4 cylinder engines.
The SQ7 diesel is still very attractive.
