I definitely rate EVs for being quiet, comfortable and leaving one feeling fresh at the end of the trip. It would also save money on fuel. If you charge at both ends, anything would do 80 miles; a longer range would let you use work's electricity in both directions.
EVs do seem to be the way forward now for sure. I'm an old boy though, so I still hold onto ICE(for my sins I guess in this new environmently friendly world though), however almost everyone else now does seem to love EVs for definite though. cool

Jaguar XJ or XF.

Lets be honest, nothing much beats a big Jaguar for smooth long distance drives.
Id just cut out the middleman and buy an ex Greenflag truck
Really? I've had 3 XF's and apart from routine stuff, I've only ever had to replace abs sensors. I must be very lucky then?

It really is a very nice place to sit and do long journeys. My current one is the petrol one though, so 28mpg.

For that reason alone, I'd have a Volvo D5, reasonable mpg and very comfortable. Or the BMW 530d, but the interior on a 15k one is pretty basic.

You are only doing 50 miles a day.

25 miles each way!

Why all the fuss?

XJ 3.0d or 530d would be the two I'd be looking at.

It's not 50 miles a day. I'm in the office two days a week. It'll be either 85 miles*2 if I stay over on the first night, else 85*4 if I drive down and back both days. Best part of 3 hours for a return journey. High pressure job, anything I can do to make life easier is worth doing.

Interesting, but can't see myself in one, especially the NX which looks wise leaves me cold.
IS saloon?
not last word in fun, but reliable, stress-free cruising is its forte.
seats are important too.

If you think the 5-series is on your list then the e-class should be on there as well. In my experience the Mercedes driving experience is like a more grownup version of driving a BMW. Still got reasonable performance but a bit softer and quieter.

I'd be worried about battery life with a high mileage EV.

That one would be under Tesla battery warranty til June next year (8 years from 2017) guaranteeing 70% capacity.

I bought a similar one recently (age and mileage), and the degradation is about 8% so far. It's a great motorway cruiser.

i'd change that to Phaeton

Audi A8 (4.2 tdi would be the one!)
BMW 740d
Mercedes E or ideally S Class
Jag XJ

with the above, plenty of cars to be had under £15k but i think you'll need a generous slush fund to run them.

i think you'd be happy enough with something like a 530d personally. Someone mentioned a 640d Gran Coupe already, i think thats a great choice!

Check the insurance on iPace - I've been looking at EVs and quotes for various models are all over the place, but generally under £1K. iPace came back at £2,200.

Mate of mine, who committed to a used iPace without checking quotes, and who, in every way should be the least possible risk, ended up getting black box insurance as the cost was so high.

Of all the suggestions so far 640d GC comes out on top for me, mainly due to looks plus apparent VFM. I'll definitely try to test a sub-S class Merc though. S class screams big bills and lots to go wrong, plus I'm not quite old enough to see myself in one just yet.
