This has been raised before and I was surprised that most felt this practice was fine.

Each dealership must be employing someone full time to keep changing all the windscreen prices.
It is actually the opposite as the Autotrader market pricing tool means dealers are not having to pay a team to keep check of competitors retail prices when the system can do it for them.

The car in question is as Stellantis dealership who I doubt have any idea of BMW’s so they trust Autotrader to check the spec and price the car to market trends. You will also find window stickers are becoming a thing of the past in larger groups and when they use them the will probably be set at a higher price point.

Sounds like they're advertising it at say £300, meaning £300pcm?

Searching y price sometimes throws up such things?
Nope, heres some examples of some saved in my shortlist all at different dealerships:

There are often cars listed at a few hundred quid on both AT and Motors.
There's usually a sign in one of the images saying 'price is per month, car is £22k' or something.

Sometimes there isn't a cash price listed.

Is it daft?

I sell the only car of its type on AT I ask for a premium. I sell one of ten I don't.

Prices going up or same model cars selling for more? I put my price up to reflect the market.

Basic economics. You already do it by your own admission.
Autotrader prices are advertised prices though, not selling prices. If I put my car up for sale at twice its value would you match my price if you were also advertising one for sale?

If you couldn't sell it at £19,500 then why is it felt that trying again at £19,750 will work?

This is because 'Motorwatch' is a rip off AT Price Tracker and the developer is incapable of doing a proper job.

In those screenshots - £488, £316, £618, £614 are all monthly payment prices for those vehicles. The monthly prices obviously change too based on when the total price changes, or interest rates change and what have you.

Obviously these should not belong there.

This makes users of 'Motorwatch' believe its the dealers knocking £20k / £30k / £40k off cars. It's not.

And that isn't the only thing wrong with its 'price history'.

Do people really stress and worry about these things? If you like the car go and see it. Make an offer. It will or won’t be accepted.
Unfortunately that doesn't work either. I had a £20k BMW on my watchlist but didn't call the dealer until my own had sold. A couple of days earlier, that dealer hiked the price by £500 and simultaneously offered £500 any finance package. I called and said I was happy to pay the previous price but they refused and the sales manager sent a cocky email saying pay the price or leave it.

Three weeks later the car has been reduced back again within £100 of original price and the last conversation I had with their rep was call me if you lower the price back. They have and no call, but no worry, I found another car with a main agent who was willing to negotiate on price, fit new tyres, brakes etc. And the car is two years newer for the same money as dealer A.

Still not convinced that daily/hourly dynamic pricing on a fixed tangible asset like a car. Time expiring flights and hotel rooms, great, cars not. Most I have been watching only ever have decisive changes (usually down) on a much less frequent basis.

One of the changes was £3. That's 0.015%.
