If it absolutely HAD to be 'twixt those, it would be the 8c for me.

Neither would be my personal choice for £150k+ but that's by the by.

Don't the reviews all say that it's a pity they didn't make the 8C drive as well as it looks?
Seeing as how it's an ugly munter it must drive like a bag 'o shcensored.

Vanquish S.

Seen a few 8c's around here now, and they really do nothing for me in the looks dept. They sound great though, but then so will an Aston.

Unsurprisingly, it'd be the 8C for me. smile

Perhaps it doesn't drive as well as it looks, but that still leaves room for it to be pretty good - for what little it's worth, evo seemed to rate the drive a lot more highly than Clarkson did...

Regardless, it's not a car I would track, and I don't kid myself that I'd get close to its full potential on the road, so the overall joy of ownership is more important than whether there's a shade too much body roll at 10-tenths.

I'd be happy with either, but if I could choose then I'd choose the 8C. In black.

While it didn't set the world on fire like a GT3 RS or a Superleggera might, I don't recall it having bad reviews.

Just to help, I'm going to delete every reply that suggests the Vanquish biggrin

(no, I'm not really going to!)

Clarkson said it was a dog to drive.

On the other hand, evo gave it 4.5 stars - for comparison, they gave the Superleggera 4.0

Agreed.

Evo seemed to like it, granted its not a GT3 RS etc, but lets face it, its not a track toy, its more a car you would park in your living room to look at every night !

In fact stuff it, I would have mine in my bedroom.

Just need to design your house around the 8c!

Cannot not imagine doing that with a GT3 RS ! LOL

8C!

As far as owners are considered (having spoke to many), i think 95% of modern aston owners buy the car as a cock extension and have very limited knowledge about the car or cars in general. I would hate to be tarred with the same brush.

Buy the alfa.
Happily, having an enormous cock, I am one of the 5%.

I'm interested to know how the other 95% intimated to you that they had bought their Astons as penis extensions. Given you would fear being tarred with the same brush, does that mean that you are in need of an extension yourself?
Im very happy for you and your wife.

The owners i have spoke to include two members of my family and a few guys at work, all of which know very little about the car and have bought it purely just to tell people they have an aston. Personally it annoys the life out of me when 'men' buy a car just to brag about it on the golf course. I cant entertain the thought in my head how someone can spend over 100k just to try and put one over there colleagues. How insecure are these people??

I think most owners on an enthusiasts forum will be very knowledgable about their car so dont doubt you know the in's and outs of your motor.

Stephen.

The Alfa 8C is a car of rare beauty and IMO highly desirable. Some manufacturers somehow make all their cars look the same and Aston is a bit guilty in that department.

Amongst other attractions the Alfa looks a bit like a classic Corvette and has the steering wheel on the correct side!

I don't know much about the Vanquish but there is quite a lot I know about the 8C beyond the way it looks and sounds:

- it is a deceptively big car, much more so than it appears to be in any photo you will see, so hustling it along country roads is nerve wracking.

- it has the most uncomfortable seats in any car, ever. How can the designers come up with something in a car that costs that much that simultaneously gives you back ache, a numb bum and a dead leg from the side bolster?

- it does not have parking sensors, but it does have a warning buzzer to let you know that you are in reverse. Massively irritating, but presumably designed for the US market, because, as we all know, objects in the rear mirror are behind you.

- despite it's size, almost zero luggage space. If it doesn't fit on the shelf behind the seats, it's staying behind.

- massive reflection off the dash top on sunny days which falls right into your eyeline.

Beautiful? Yes. Flawed? Definitely.

Suppose you had the money to drop on your dream car and after months of consideration it came down to these 2. Which would you go for and why?

Black would almost certainly be the colour in both cases (maybe a dark green or blue for the Vanq).

Mondeo & R500 & bank the rest isn't the way in this case.
Will you be keeping the Lancia?

Alfa with out a seconds thought

Aston's are now common, in relative terms, and the vast amount of people will struggle to tell the difference between an AMV8, DB9 or Vanquish. The Alfa will always stand out.

Strangely enough I don't think either are as good looking as the Gran Turismo,

Saw a candy red 8c in St Tropez last summer, it literally stopped everyone in their tracks as the smug looking driver drove past! Utterly stunning and sounded like a wounded tiger too!

The carrera gt and phantom drophead parked up didnt get a second look!!

I would choose a road going Granturismo S MC corse! Same engine and looks just as stunning!

The Vanquish S with the £15k proper manual Gearbox (Official Aston works) would be my ideal car, in British Racing Green. A stunning looking car, with the soundtrack to die for and, with that gearbox a fantastic machine to drive. The 8c is lovely, and yes a bit more of a rarity but the Vanquish is hardly a common site on the roads. I have seen at least 20 AMV8s, about the same for the DB9 and I must have seen 30 plus DB7s on the road in 15 years, I have seen 4 Vanquish's on the road in the 8 years they have been around.
I think I'd be with him.

The Vanquish is a brutish looking car and IMO maybe just edges the 8C looks wise...
That V12 makes an absolutely gorgeous howl as well! cloud9

An Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Le Mans Speciale for me. Probably a bit more than the Aston or current 8c!

And that (along with the ever increasing "mystery" price) was the main reason I cancelled my order. It rendered it unusuable for me.
