I bought a car from my business. I checked with my accountant and the process I followed was to just get 3 trade sale valuations from dealers and I paid the highest figure. I did later sell the car privately for more than I had bought it for, but that is before taking into account my time and effort.

I think in theory you could be investigated by HMRC and, if asked, you would need to produce paperwork which looked reasonable. At the end of the day, it's pretty much like so many decisions which impact tax when you run your own business, like vat, business expenses etc i.e. you process it based on what you think are the rules, but be prepared to defend yourself if you get investigated, and be prepared for the consequences if you obviously take the piss.
I think the argument isn’t that you can’t do it, but more that you undo some of the tax savings by taking the car out of the business?

Collect my one (it'll be my wife's car, but whatever hehe) from Southampton on the 19th. Staying in a hotel the night before and getting some dinner, so don't really mind Tesla is making me traipse 1/3 of the way across the country to get it. biggrin Car is black paint, black interior, 20" Induction wheels.
I believe the 19th is the earliest for any release of Cars?
OctopusEV have dropped the ball for me tbh, and the delivery date is now very wishy washy.
They say Tesla will directly message me.

How much notice did you get for your date of the 19th ?

I think the argument was more whether you could cheat the system by buying the car from the business personally at below the market rate and so effectively get tax relief on more of the depreciation. And the answer based on my experience is there isn't a huge amount of leeway.

There’s a few other smaller events this week - there was a collection of around 25 cars today in Bristol. Southampton is the big one with ~1000 being collected. I believe deliveries will start after these events. I got notified for my 19th collection around 3 weeks ago. I was fairly late compared to most and expect someone else was offered it first but declined so I got a re-allocation

Thanks.

A bit pissed as OctopusEV 'sold us' on the idea of a February delivery as part of the decision making process - that then actually stated on an email as today delivery.

I got on to them last week saying "well? What happens" and they said wriggling "we believe it is a Q1 delivery, and the date of Feb 15th is the middle of Q1 and hence why used in the email. We don't know when it is available"

I told them that was really st comms and customer comm's- how about the fact we had planned the sale of the car it is replacing etc, and even through a Powerful Director strop at them.
They said "well lets just put it down as March 15th. and we'll know more nearer the time"

I think the challenge with Tesla and leasing companies is that you don’t get a build slot. Tesla just build cars and match people who have ordered that spec.

You will find that you get a text directly from Tesla first - they will give you a delivery window. This is usually a few weeks in advance. They will then follow up with a load more texts as you are confirmed a match with a car.

There’s a lot of people who have already had their date range texts for March and early March deliveries seem to be getting their Reg plate details etc.

When did you order?

Ordered mid December on the basis of “yes we have that spec allocated as one we can supply and should be February 2022”

The after sales has been poor. Lack of comms and I’ve had to do a lot of chasing. Same applies for the charging installation

I have a test drive of a model Y on Monday, hoping it is rubbish so I don’t want to buy one. Suspect I will want one.

Be sure to make notes from here and see if you can spot all bullet points. How it drives it not important!
Here are some pointers:
  1. Before getting in, make sure you make measurements of all the gaps on both sides. Tell yourself that if they're ok, that's probably because it's a demo car and your car will be much worse.
  2. Try to figure out how much the plastic trim costs, or feels like it would cost.
  3. Remind yourself that you have to adjust the mirrors and seats every time you get in, so having that in the touchscreen instead of individual physical buttons will drive you mad.
  4. Plug it in to a supercharger. If it doesn't catch fire, again, you've been lucky.

Try turning on the windscreen demister
Half way through the test drive, let your partner drive, then swap back. See how easy it is to swap profiles
Hope it’s not raining lightly
Try autopilot and find a lorry in a slow lane to go past for real excitement
Try voice commands using different accents until you find one that works

Isn't that just a tap on the climate icon and then the windscreen icon?

Easiest thing there is? Tap on the profile on top, select profile?

hehe I'll give you that one.

It won't go past I'm guessing? Or will it crash into it?

confused
I'm native Dutch and French, never had an issue with voice commands in English in Tesla. Although we use the Dutch ones in general, they work fine. Even mixed Dutch and English (find music) works great. Almost as good as Google, a lot better than Siri IME.

Yours was a blatant dig at some of the complaints people make that you feel are untrue or trivial.

Mine was a list of real issues people experience.

You made a sarcastic comment about adjusting the seats. I countered with the profile select button disappearing from the screen and you have to go via a sub menu and then try and find it amongst the 28 other soft buttons on that screen. Some say later releases have put it back, but not in my car and now everytime I get in after my wife has driven the car I have to wait for the screen, call up the sub menu, find the profiule button and then change it to me before the seat has crushed me against the steering wheel as it returns to her setting. Before it was much easier to do..

Autopilot is well known to phantom brake when passing a lorry, and phantom braking is of course now the subject to a safety investigation. Not sure why that would confuse you.

Voice commands are notoriously poor, especially if the car doesn't have a fast mobile signal. Really surprised you're unaware, maybe its a issue with cars in the UK due to using a Dutch sim (thats not a dig at the Dutch, its what Tesla do). or just more conjested and slower mobile internet coverage.

Haven't seen ours disappear, hence my confusion. But I can see that complicating things.

They are obviously scared of lorries, but ime it brakes to match the lorries speed. Not great but not terrible.

Fair enough, I can imagine mobile coverage affects the voice assistant.

Picked mine up yesterday. Looks much better in person than I was expecting. No issues with paint/panel gaps/build quality. All seems spot on.

Tyres were overinflated so I let some air out. It’s on the 19’s and ride is great for me. I’m coming from a C6 S6 and a golf GTi though so may be used to firmer rides. It’s quick enough for a family car and a surprisingly fun/engaging drive.

No complaints so far… aside from the hideous aero covers which I took off in the collection bay!

Here’s mine on collection day. Looks a lot better in person than I was expecting - I also thought the wheels would be too small as they look it in photos. Again in person it looks much better than I thought it would and the wheels look great in reality.
