Not too sure on the Y yet, but I always thought the 3 looked a lot better in the flesh than it did on pictures.

Went for the test drive today... really really liked it.

It's a model 3 with all the bits that didn't match what I wanted fixed. It was even spitting and the wipers performed perfectly fine.

Now just need to see if I can make the man maths work against petrol cars for me.

How was the ride on the 19" wheels? I really liked how the Model 3 LR drove on the smaller wheels and until I get to test drive the Y all I've heard on reviews is how firm the ride is, but they always seem to test on 20's or 21's.

No brainer surely, £1 a week on leccy and zero service costs ever.

I’ve been looking at the tyres sizes… all numbers from the UK Tesla owners manuals.

MY on 19s is 255/45R19 so a 115mm side wall
MY on 20s is 255/40R20 so a 102mm side wall
M3 on 18s is 235/45R18 so a 105mm side wall
M3 on 19s is 235/40R19 so a 94mm side wall
M3 on 20s is 235/35R20 so a 82mm side wall

I’m probably switching from an M3P to an M3LR or a MYLR and I wanted a bit more comfort. Looks like the M3 on 18s and the MY on 20s should feel about the same, although I expect the springs on the MY are stiffer. MY on 19s should be the most comfortable as it has the most sidewall height.

The sidewall stiffness is a factor as well (load rating) and brand.

Yes, good point. The MY requires XL tyres, whereas the 3 does not. The load index isn’t published, so I guess would depend on brand.

TM3 18" Tyres are a load rating of 98, on some brands that would be XL

Does the MY come with cargo cover?

The one thing it hasn’t done is ‘rain lightly’ over the last week.

I'm sure I read someone they were getting fitted to newly delivered cars. I know the demos in my local don't have them.

I've heard the cars made in Berlin will get a cargo cover and you will be able to get an aftermarket one for the China made cars. I think it is probably quite important, if for no other reason that the noticeable increase in cabin noise vs model 3, which I think it will help damp.

Doesn’t look like it has the lip for a boot cover that some Model Ys will apparently be getting.

I found it rode perfectly fine. I’d been out in a M3 LR a couple of weeks back and maybe thought that was a bit harsh for me, the MY I think rode better. It was on very broken roads with all the roadworks going on around the Tesla Center so I was aiming for plenty of bumps and potholes and there was nothing that was too bad. Certainly better than my Cupra Formentor that I drove there in.

At least two available for test drive in Bristol.

Very nice, very different. Hides the weight well. Seems reasonably well built.

Hyperactive steering rack.

Tempted.

Just collected mine from Bristol.

Totally underwhelming handover experience in a damp Bristol car park; felt like a drugs deal (although the staff there were friendly and helpful).

Based on driving it home to Bath, it’s great! Really enjoyable to drive. Looks much better in the metal (and plastic…) than pictures and I like my colour and wheel choices.

Collection…

…now safely plugged in (had 55% charge at collection).
