Seems you don't know much about the differences between the Model 3's powertrain and the Model S's. Do us all a favor and educate yourself before commenting further.
You mean the permanent magnet motor? It’s fitted in the model S and has been for a while

If you wanted to say something cutting you might mention that it looks like they’ve stuffed one of the MS Plaid cars into the barrier on the ring earlier today.

Are you Rob in disguise, he seems to have gone missing lately?

Elon just announced on the earnings call that we can expect a 5% increase in power for the Model 3 coming with an OTA update in the next few weeks biggrin

You don't get that with your AMG, RS4 etc.etc.

Take away the redline/gearchanges/noise parts and it a Model 3 cuts it very well.

Some of you here need to get one out on a track and you'll seeit for yourselves.
What about steering feel, I doubt it will match an Elise for that or balence, though I have only driven the Elise ..

Pros and cons to all cars, Tesla does make people bipolar as mentioned above. The good thing is we are discussing it and it drums up interest in EVs . I'm never going to buy one but I enjoy reading about people's experiences on here.

The Model 3 isn't in the same class as an Elise, nor a Caterham as mentioned previously. Why make pointless comparisons?

If you want to compare it with a car in its class (3-series, A4, C-Class) then the steering still may not be to your liking but it's certainly good enough to be enjoyable if you like a 'spirited drive'.

As for mapping, yes I could also fiddle about with the JB4 on my 335 all day but it's still not going to be as quick and responsive as my Model 3, which is why I really don't have any desire to drive it these days (much to my surprise, TBH).

You should try driving one. You might understand then what the fuss is all about.

If they’re turbocharged, maybe. Otherwise good luck doing that on a reasonable budget.

I wonder how insurance companies feel about their policyholders suddenly receiving 5% more power? You’d think it would be something that would need to be disclosed?

Was the remap free and does it affect the warranty?

Sat in a model 3 yesterday. Interior felt like it was made from recycled plastic chip shop forks. Awful. How do people love these things?

by not comparing the interior to a 300 grand Bentley, the interior quality and materials of the m3 are an easy match for my a class it replaced

The problem seems to be that owners/press who have spent time with the car are essentially all very impressed with it. The vast majority of the opposing opinions are from people with no experience of it seemingly commenting based on a set of standard stereotypes/heard down the pub anecdotes?

Fair comment?
No. I spent 2 weeks with a P85. Hated it. Overwhelming feeling of cheapness on what is an expensive car. Very dull despite the performance.
To me everyone likes different cars - some like an M3 some prefer a C63 for example and you always get a bit of banter. Tesla owners however suddenly seem to think anyone with an ICE car is inferior and get extremely defensive about their cars.
When I had the father in laws P85 other Tesla owners were horrified that I really didnt like it. Genuinely, their reaction was quite ridiculous.

Fair comments?

Completely agrees that banter between brands is good, but then you fire in with a comment like "recycled chip forks" just to try to light the fire.

Of course, but I said 'the vast majority' so doesn't contradict my post as far as I am concerned. There will of course always be exceptions who have actually experienced the brand and not been impressed but they are very much in the minority based on previous posters.

I've got a foot in both camps but will say again that I find ICE drivers are far quicker to get on the defensive and make stereotypical statements from a position of zero experience. Everyone here with an EV will have owned an ICE car previously so at least has a point of reference for comparison.

Always be fanboys for either side, and they're usually very easy to spot and ignore.

Some people may well prefer a C63. Those people need to realise their personal preference will not continue to trump the need to reduce emissions and pollution.

Personally I'm not a fan of the Model 3 interior, but the Model S and X are just fine; I drove a 2018 Model S and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. My direct comparison was the 2013 Audi A7 I drove to the showroom. I suspect Tesla took criticism of quality to heart and vastly improved in the past three or four years

And if you don't like Tesla interiors, there are plenty of other fast, plush EVs available now or very soon for a similar price - I-Pace, Taycan, and Polestar 2 to name but a few.

My Model S received an update (uncorking they call it) a while back FOC that took my 0-60 from 5.2 secs to 4.2 secs.I contacted my Insurer (LV) who said provided it was done by the manufacturer it wasn't classed as a modification and all was fine.

Harrods. wink

Seriously though is the perceived quality of interior plastics really what makes you 'love' a car anyway? Some of my favourite cars I've owned over the years have had awful interiors.

Now that I can understand. It's not good is it, although better than the Honda E at least.
