How do you fully test something for public road use of you only use it in a controlled test environment?
Professional safety drivers, initial on private roads and then in public. Untrained members of the public are no substitute. And I mean Waymo grade safety drivers, not Uber level.

Or are you envisaging a guy made some code, and they uploaded it and heading straight out to the freeways on a punt?

Has it not crossed your mind that they have done that bit? and hence the roads now?
Have you watched the videos? It's been out a few days and one single test pilot has had several pants-browning near misses. It's nowhere near ready and years away from the robotaxi service they said would launch this year.

Had a chat with the local independent garage who I always go to with my other cars, we decided there was no point in taking the car to them for a 'service' as there is literally nothing they would do beyond what the MOT has done to check the suspension. So going into the 4th year of ownership with me having never 'serviced' the car.
Have a look and see if there's a HEVRA member garage near you. https://www.hevra.org.uk/We have one locally and they do the service and MOT on our EV. Whether or not it 'needs' a service over just an MOT is pretty marginal, but there's still things like brake fluid, 12v battery, gear oil in ours that are worth looking after as we're keeping it long term. If we were going to get rid after a couple of years then I wouldn't bother. Standard service & MOT is about £100.
Had some more time to play with the new upgrades, today, whilst not life changing been able to do things like watch Netflix without faffing with the phone was helpful when waiting for my daughters Saturday AM activities to finish on a cold/wet day.
The dash cam function is useful, and seem to work well. Watching the videos gives me a headache tough, I don’t think our brains are programmed to try and look at the road from 4 different views at the same point.
Much more interesting though is the up and coming v11 software, which apparently will allow the FSD visualisation to take over the entire drivers console, cannot wait to see/try this in the UK .
Overall very happy with the upgrade, its the first car I have ever owned that really has got better over time. The comparison with our other car is quite remarkable, its like going back in time about 20 years!!

For anyone interested the miles are now racking up on the X, 13k in the last 12 months not bad given I live 5 miles away from work!
No repairs or issues for about 20k miles, have got a pretty set routine of tires lasting 20k. Rear brake pads only 50% worn from leaving the show room, fronts are 30% worn after they were last changed at 50k.
Scary how quickly time goes, only 2 more years before the 8 year motor/battery warranty is up, will be at 100k ish by than I suspect.
