Doesn’t seem to be Tesla or even just an EV issue.
The article implies manufacturers fit different seats for US and EU markets due to the differing safety standards.

Yeah, that doesnt seem to be related to Tesla really - if there is an issue, its not exclusive to them. Tesla has always done extremely well in crash tests both here in the US as well as elsewhere.

What is concerning (after doing a little digging) is that of the crash test procedures that I checked into (US NCAP, EuroNCAP, IIHS and the German one, cant remember now) all have very limited or non-existent coverage for rear impact worthiness. They all seem to have some limited rear impact testing as well as seat / whiplash coverage, but not at the speeds that that article seems to suggest.

Here in the US, being rear-ended is actually one of the more common crash types and I remember when I did my motorcycle license you had to attend mandatory training. In California the most frequent form of accident in which a motorcyclist is injured or killed - being rear-ended at a stop or lights! Hence one of the primary justifications for California passing the lane splitting law (filtering between traffic)!! So its more common than you might think, and more of a concern to hear that the crash tests dont really test for this.

But, it does seem to be a bit of an edge case and pretty much every new car hits at least 4.5 stars, if not 5 (out of 5 here in the US). So maybe time to expand it and improve vehicle safety again?
