As an M3 owner, I can say that the car does many things very well.

However, the whole AP, EAP FAP thing is a looong way from being properly useable.

I've pretty much stopped using AP - the phantom braking issue makes it unworkable. An example of phantom braking:

1) HA Disco on hard shoulder

2) Artic with trailer

3) Curtainsider where the curtains flap

4) Blue BMW 220 - just random - virtually empty M6 toll and it slammed on as it passed it

5 Overtaking a wagon as the road bends - that spooks it

So far it has not caused anyone behind t o slam on, although the Raoul Moat looky likey in a Ranger got a rude awakening yesterday.....

They ae excellent cars, but they really need tot get this sorted, rather than give us an update with 15 new fart noises and Sabre Wolf.

That’s odd. I’d agree with all the other comments about EAP being worthless. But I’ve never experienced any phantom issues with basic cruise control. It’s rock solid for me when used in appropriate conditions.

It's not odd, the internet is overflowing with complaints about phantom braking. What are "appropriate conditions"? I can get it to phantom brake every single time on a 3-lane motorway if I go from lane 3 to 2 if there is a truck in lane 1.

Another Beta is almost ready, no radar anymore. I seem to remember the amazement people had over Tesla's detecting crashes of cars in front of the car in front of them because of the radar bouncing underneath. This is gone.

v9 is almost ready.

For a system that was "feature complete" in 2018, 2019 and 2020

The FSD subscription programme promised is going to be interesting, how many subscribe and then stay keep paying the monthly fee, and how many cancel.

I wonder if Tesla will show this transparently in their accounts.

The free months trial of EAP, at least in the UK, seemed to convince more people than ever not to pay for the upgrade. When they get the "beta beta trial" version out and let people play with that they may change their minds but so far its highlighting its limitations more than encouraging £3400 to extracted from peoples wallets for EAP, let alone pay for FSD

I've had my new M3 since the end of December. 99% of my driving in it is on dual carriageways or motorways - I can guarantee phantom braking at least once in every single journey - and this is hard, stand on the brakes braking too. For no discernible reason that I can fathom. Incredibly dangerous if anyone was behind me.

It's not a huge issue for me as I just regard it as a pretty unusable feature - unless I am hovering over the accelerator ... which is not exactly the relaxing experience it's supposed to be.

I have also turned off the emergency lane departure assist feature too... last week it violently grabbed the steering wheel and I lurched to the left - luckily caught it before we ended up in the armco.

I like the car, I really do, but some of these features are clearly not working - and maybe they never will?

Hmm very strange. Only thing I can think of is I tend to have use it mostly at night or in poor light. I sometimes travel overnight to see my folks it’s a 350 mile drive. No issues.

If the weather is good I generally take B roads and enjoy myself.

Perhaps it doesn’t like shadows!

Doesn’t bode well for removing radar though. Musk loves to double down on stuff doesn’t he. Doubt we will ever get fixed speed Cc!

Yes it could be a nighttime thing - but I have no idea.

My driving is pretty much only in decent daylight conditions. I was out yesterday and had phantom braking again - as always.

As I mentioned, it's not a massive issue for me personally, but it clearly doesn't work as it should - but it amuses me that 'fully autonomous driving' is claimed to be nearly ready. It feels a really long way off.

How long before someone is rear-ended at speed because of this?

Crash report apparently showing that auto pilot wasn't even on but cruise control might have been. Darwin award?

I do think the "one tap down for cruise, two taps for autopilot" is a bad piece of human factors - people will make the mistake of assuming they are in the mode which also steers after a single tap.
