I only listen to the radio, but I don't "do" music - only the spoken word (Radio 4, Times Radio, LBC, etc.).

I accept that I am in a minority, but I wouldn't buy a car that didn't have a radio of some sort.
Sorry, I have said it before on this thread, but you do get radio. Albeit internet radio. See www.tunein.com. It has every channel available I can think of (including all the ones you mention above). Tesla give you the premium subscription as part of owning a car.

I 'think' this is just retrofit issue. I'm assuming new s/x have DAB?

Its not even a retrofit issue, if you really want a radio Tesla will fit one. But am still amazed people get so worked by radios.

It's largely a live talk radio thing,

But not Classic FM which is what my wife listens to all the time.

It seems to have that too? https://tunein.com/radio/Classic-FM-1009-s8439/

It's very simple:

Keep the infotainment the car came with. We've been doing this for decades.

If you upgrade, keeping AM/FM/DAB will cost you extra on top of the upgrade.

Simples.

Corrected that for everyone who doesn't seem to understand plain English.

It doesn't appear when searching on the car's screen. No idea why. It used to. It then disappeared. It might be to do with the Dutch SIM that Tesla supplies (N.B. may now have changed) with the their cars. I had it saved ass a favourite but then the favourite would no longer load and the station couldn't be found on a search.

I hate that my wife listens to it on the dreadful quality that is DAB or FM.

I get that but I was merely correcting the posters saying one could get any radio station via TuneIn. That is not true. Or at least not on my Model X, frustratingly.

The biggest gain surprisingly has been Netflix, its amazingly how quickly kids get use to tech!! To think when we were growing up a cassette player was a big thing to have in a car smile

I thought it was a gimmick. My eldest however is 6 years old. Doesn't have a phone or anything yet but can operate a (smart) TV and the Tesla infotainment.

It's been a godsend! "hey, if you have your jacket and shoes on you can get in the car and watch some Paw Patrol till we leave". Getting the kids ready has never been easier smile.

If you search for Classic FM on the ‘any music’ button it appears on the top left (‘Top Result’). It doesn’t appear under stations for some reason but it is there.

That is odd. Is there a setting for show ‘Top result’ or anything anywhere?

I’ve just had a software update so might be a new feature I can’t say I’ve ever noticed it before. But still, it confirms Tunein has Classic FM lol. In fact I’ve not found a station Tunein doesn’t have yet (not one that I listen to anyways - and I’m also not into music so like my talk radio stations)

Anyways. Back onto the original topic. Shall I push the button on this upgrade or not. Is £2,400 worth it? @Zespak. The cars not £100k it never was. It’s probably worth about £40k now. So it’s quite a lot in relation to the value

Over here they nearly all were over 100k EUR at least.

What the car is worth now has usually little relation to the value of the parts. Just try and fix up a 20k S-class.
