Wow if accurate that's an issue!

The 2021 P has a different battery to the LR?
BT42 battery code came out for the M3P on 2021 models but now even LR are shown as shipping with it. Will be interesting to see what happens in Europe when the boats arrive with those on board.

Post towards bottom of this page has some relevant data, as do subsequent comments / pages, but definitely looks like 2021 U.K. M3s with the BT42 battery are pretty compromised at low SOC.

..and because it (completely coincidentally) happens to be his latest video, Bjorn suggests already fixed via software - at leats in the SR+ he tests;

No brainer really. The BIK saving alone for a 40% tax payer is huge compared to ICE or even hybrid.
Totally agree. They’re in the process of setting this up so I’ll see what’s about once it’s sorted. I’ve been told it will be via salary sacrifice like the pension so no messing with a tax return either.

I like the look of the Kia EV6 thing that was announced the other week. Looks a bit more interesting. Also they do a longer warranty. I wouldn’t fancy being stuck with a 4 year PCP on an EV with a 3 year warranty. Food for thought especially where new tech is concerned.

Model 3 is 4 years, it's the 50,000 miles that's probably the kicker for most.

But you do get 8 yrs/100,000 for Battery + Motors

That’s not bad then re the battery and motor.
Messing with the numbers the other week and I’d selected 15k per year.
It’s the tax thing that has got my interest. That to one side I wouldn’t be fussed just yet. I’ll see how it plays out.

Couldn't find a quiet road to do a proper 0-60 with the app as it takes a bit of set up with a 3,2,1 go

I did do a couple counting out loud and I was getting somewhere around 4 secs - if it was lower or higher it is difficult to say but it did feel a faster car than I remembered.

I haven't driven the car in anger since the last couple of updates so maybe something has been fixed recently?

Still can’t get that rapid acceleration out of my mind. The perfect round-town car imo. Shame the interior, or lack off, let’s it down for any decent length commute

As a round-town car it is not a patch on a i3s. That is a fantastic city car, fast, small, great turning circle, easy to park and none of the awkwardness of the tech controls in the Model 3 - well built with a better interior as well.

The lack of interior is one of the plus points - it's unashamedly an electric car. I find it great on longish runs, very comfortable and easy.

I've owned cars with nice interiors, but I'm quite happy in the Tesla - it's not trying to be a 'car' in the same way.

Each to their own of course. smile

Easy to park, but your rear passengers might not be able to get out biggrin

You're funny.

You're also entitled to your opinion, of course.

Personally find the 'lack of interior' makes for a very relaxing long distance cruiser when required.

We had both at one point (none S but little difference). The i3 certainly a better pure city car for the reasons given ref size and maneuverability.

I would say though that the controls make no difference, the ride is crap and it's a pain in the arse if you have rear passengers though.

Test drove a Model 3 yesterday. Took it back in under 30 minutes as even though I found the acceleration phenomenal, the handling was poor and the brakes were awful. The agent looked stunned, I don’t think he was expecting me to drive it like I stole it, but credit where it’s due he gave me the performance model and it was much better. Brakes were a noticeable improvement, handling, even on 20 inch MPS4S, just isn’t there. Not sure if we need one but I want one. I think.

Don’t know if I could live with the large screen, I’d probably get used to it, but I find it a distraction. Even a HUD would be a bonus.

I’m taking Mrs R for a test drive on Saturday.

Forgot to add, couple of things that sell a car for me are the right seats and a steering wheel that feels right. I could live with the seats but that wheel is cheap and nasty. Salesman tells me there are aftermarket alternatives. Surely you shouldn’t need an aftermarket anything on an almost €70k motor.

The wheel shape is fine, but the material is nasty.

The early 19 models came with a proper leather steering wheel.

Later ones have "vegan" pu leather.

The brakes on these aren't bedded at all at the factory. They improve dramatically with some proper bedding/use. I thought the same as you initially but after a couple of weeks bedding in I realised they were actually very good. It's a very common complaint but an easy fix.

My brother in law got one a few weeks ago. I’ve had a couple of extended go’s in it.

Honestly i was a bit underwhelmed. I was expecting to fall over myself with envy and order one immediately but....no.

Once you got over the acceleration (and it’s fking insane in my opinion) it was just totally boring I found.

One thing that really wound me up but I presume I might get used to is the regen when you lift off the throttle. Can you turn it down or off so it coasts a bit more?! Feels like hard braking to me. Didn’t like it at all.

Don’t get me wrong, when I go electric, it’ll likely be the model3 I guess, but I’m not going to be choosing to make the change any time soon for any enjoyment reasons.

It’s a very very good washing machine.

You can modulate by varying lift off - step off the throttle and it's aggressive, lift up a bit and it's gentle. And everywhere in between. At least that's how it works in the i3. Get it right (takes a few goes) and it coasts like any car - better actually.
