What did you make of the tech in the Tesla?

I agree, the bland looks and the non-existent interior are enough to put me off buying one irrespective of the drivetrain and performance.

The wheels are just the icing on the cake.

Now the M3 is available for just over £20 k used I might even get one for work. It’s white goods motoring though and my experience of EVs is they are a very relaxing place to be.

To be honest I didn't get in to try it.

The car was at the detailers and it's not really on to jump into a car that belongs to someone else.

Now it's no secret I'm not a leccyhead by any means but what an absolute heap of junk. It could have had a twin turbo V8 up front and it still would have been appalling.

Panel gaps were dreadful as was the paint finish. The interior was woeful, no redeeming features whatsoever. A huge screen in the centre of the dash and you had to use that even to alter the door mirrors.

Not a dig at it for being an EV, more to the fact it was woeful.
I never get peoples obsessions with panel gaps. If I'm in it I can't see them & if its parked I can't see them. I've worked on getting them OK when rebuilding cars but otherwise no. The german marks obsess about them but then are crap mechanically which is far more important.
Not seen a bad paint finish on a Tesla, seen some new cars with orange peeled finish which seems to be a bigger issue with modern water based paints.
I know quite a few people with Teslas all seem happy, they seem to be super cheap to run & in some countries are the de facto choice because of punitive car taxes on none BEVs.

Hear, hear.

My Model 3 was parked next to a new MB GLC the other day - no comparison - the Tesla's paint is far smoother and more lustrous. (no, I wasn't drunk or high)

None of the interior panels in my car flex when you push/pull them. Same cannot be said for that GLC.

German design supremacy is more illusion than reality, IMO. (yes, I've owned many German cars)

I had a look at them in Autotrader the other day, all the mileages were pretty high, over 100k miles for the cars nearer £20k. Cars with average to low mileages are much nearer £30k.

I’d be a bit worried of running any car over 100k miles. Plus the Munro Live teardowns of early Model 3’s was pretty shocking. They found a roughly sawed plastic half pipe, of the sort you can pick up in Wickes in the HVAC system taped in place, they presumed because Tesla ran out of the proper molded part but didn’t want to stop the production line so did a bodge.

I did a recent test drive of a Model Y. The paint, panel gaps and build looked great, I thought they had laid those initial production gremlins to rest. On the move however, the dashboard creaked like crazy. I was a bit surprised Tesla would allow a test drive car to have such an obvious fault.

For me, it's the utterly bland design that's the problem.

Tesla's EV tech is still at the forefront. But, IMO, It's let down by immediately forgettable styling.

Hopefully, that will change in the future.

You couldn't be more wrong sweetie.

Not a troll at all, just pointing out how bad I thought the Tesla was.

Have nothing against EV's, they're just not for me.
Maybe you're overly picky.

Oh give it a rest.

I criticised the build quality of a car.....if you took your EV blinkers off you'll have seen that I said I have nothing against EV's, just that they're not for me.

FWIW...you can adjust the mirrors using a Toggle Switch on the steering wheel.

With regard to 'woeful interiors' and by way of comparison (avoiding any reference to Ford switchgear used in some 'premium' brands), imagine how you'd feel knowing your Pagani Zonda used the climate controls straight out of a Rover 45 coffee

Tesla build quality for UK cars improved hugely when they moved production to China. The first model 3 in UK were US made.
