The car does the job for many and many.

Oh give it a rest.

I criticised the build quality of a car.....if you took your EV blinkers off you'll have seen that I said I have nothing against EV's, just that they're not for me.
As above mentioned though, was it an early gen car? and as most EV driver suggest - it is the sum of all parts that makes the ownership work. Not the panel gaps. Or a big screen that by the way updates and improves the software, user interface and experience overnight......

Cars like this are white goods. They just work.

I still like the ICE cars, but to lambast something that is not tried, understood or probably even a current build quality is simple bobbins.

What did you make of the tech in the Tesla?
To be honest I didn't get in to try it.

The car was at the detailers and it's not really on to jump into a car that belongs to someone else.
You didn't try the tech? But you must have tried some of the tech because you said in your opening post that the mirrors could only be adjusted using the screen. Unfortunately, that comment is incorrect. They can be adjusted using a toggle button on the steering wheel (and via the screen - you have a choice). In fact, you can also set the mirrors to fold automatically at any chosen location (like a regular parking spot for example). So whilst you are of course perfectly entitled to offer your opinion, you need to get your facts right if your opinion is to be taken seriously.

As far as not wanting to buy an EV because 'they're not for you', don't buy one then. It's your choice but it doesn't help others to make an informed decision about whether an EV is right for them or not if you are making comments that are simply untrue nono

Apologies for the false info, that came from the detailer.

On what?

Have already said it could have a twin turbo V8 and it still wouldn't appeal.

OP. You do realise that most of the posters on here run a Tesla and are able to judge for themselves?

I had a US-built 2019 Model 3 Performance on lease for 3 years from December 2019. It was a great EV, but build quality was only OK. Still loved it though.

I have replaced it with a Model 3 Long Range and the build quality is much better.

I looked at other EVs, but the Model 3 has an unbeatable combination of price, size, performance, practicality, efficiency, range, tech and charging infrastructure.

Nothing laughable about that.

I do, yes.

This was originally posted in the General Gassing thread and it was PH who moved it over to this forum. It would have been better to have left it in GG as opposed to moving it here.

I had one of the OG 2019 Model 3s out of California and it was a bit ropey. Paint was okay, but panel gaps dodgy AF. No reliability issues whatsoever though. The current Shanghai-built ones are good - build quality on a par with anything comparable I think. Only problem are the Model S and X - their most expensive and flagship cars - that still come from California. I'm hoping that when mine arrive they're held together with more than just some Pritt Stick.

Any thoughts on value of extended warranty for a laughable 2019 Model 3?

I'm a bit spooked by the hard sell from the service guys. Seems a bit odd they care either way.

Surely you don’t need an extended warranty as your Tesla will be so well built?…..

I've got a 2020 model 3.

Panel gaps and paintwork are fine.

The interior lets it down. The back seats make noises, the drivers die door makes noises, the carpets are poor quality and in such a quiet car, the squeaks and rattles can be annoying as hell.

Happy to put up with it though for the running costs and performance. I also think the M3P looks pretty good, just not head on.

Agreed on all that. The noises are annoying.

However creaks and rattles are not a warranty issue so the question is I suppose what are the big ticket repairs model 3 gets in years 5 and 6? Maybe one for a USA forum

I agree with that... I can see mine, side on, from the kitchen window. It looks fine - there are, actually, some quite nice lines on it. Awful head on.

In terms of what the big repair bills might be.... not sure. I'm sort of expecting suspension stuff. But as I've saved a small fortune over my previous daily driver (V8 Range Rover supercharged), I can't say I'm that bothered.

Having had some fairly serious cars over the years, I don't find the Tesla, in comparison, to be 'laughable'. It's a four door family car - a very good one in my experience. Mine doesn't rattle at all and the panel gaps look fine.

I too had this conundrum. I’ve decided to leave it. The battery and motor is covered for 8 years. That’s the big ticket parts. Everything else is just suspension / brakes ect the warranty is similar to ice manufacturer costs imagine paying that for an ice car but it didn’t cover the engine.

Why do all Tesla drivers drive around at 50mph then suddenly explore their acceleration?

Either drive around like a eco tt or f**k off? We know they’re one trick ponies so why try it on?

(My only experience of Tesla are the Schipol Taxis).
