Thought came to me earlier this week; I know theyre quick and powerful and all that, but i haven’t seen a single one accelerating or being driven with a bit of spirit on the roads in real life.

Is there a reason people drive them sedately so much?

I see it at least once a day.

But I am sat behind the steering wheel.

Not often, but then they may be trying to get the best range.

I don't have a Tesla (do have a Volvo EV) and if you saw how quickly they eat electricity if you boot it, I can completely understand it.

Mine should do 400km range, but I've managed to run it down to less than 20% battery in 80 km... nuts

I have a Tesla and boot it all the time.

My commute is getting close to 100 miles each way - I do there and back on a single 85% charge with no problem at all. And rapidly.

I’m amazed how rarely I see it, I think only once, and that was because I encouraged it.

I’m also glad, since I’m mostly at the front of the lights on my bike and fearful of them acting up.

The only one I've seen driven in anger was a Model S desperate to prove a point and overtake me in my Chimaera.

Yet when we got on the motorway he went back into Tesla mode.

A few weeks back, a guy in a Tesla pulled up next to me at the lights, and then floored it as soon as the lights went to green (the road merged into a single lane) however I think the acceleration took even him by surprise, as he nearly went into the curb (the road had a slight kink in it).

My mate gave me a lift in his when I went to buy my Boxster. I egged him on to kick it's brains in, and he duly did as asked. I was braced for the onslaught, but it took me completely by surprise and my neck took the brunt of it. It felt as quick as some of my bikes up to certain speeds.

Does anyone know if the motors wear out quicker if you hammer them regularly?

Twice.

First time was a guy driving like an absolute cock, overtaking on an A road, pushing through a string of traffic approaching an urban area, to turn off a whole six seconds earlier than if he'd just joined the back. I was impressed by the instant response of the car.

Second time I was on the bike, had been let past a 5 series that was driving at a reasonable pace. A bit further up the road I was admiring the scenery and noticed the 5 series closing in with a model 3 behind it, neither were hanging around. I pulled over and watched the pair of them snake down the road towards Moffat; I quite like seeing other people having fun in a safe manner.

I boot mine everywhere but you have to be careful as other motorists don’t expect it.

I think there are far more ICE owners who fret about 'range anxiety' on behalf of EV owners than they do themselves! biglaugh

I've seen Tesla's etc doing 180km/h+ on the A22 in the Algarve, Portugal where there is relatively no traffic. Most people have short commutes, even pushing it a Tesla can cope with that comfortably.

Range anxiety is a projected construct of some ICE owners. EV owners are generally not fussed, they know that for 99% of their journey's they don't need to worry about it.

Tesla only once, off a "grippy" roundabout on the A12 and beyond. Left my Impreza in its wake, it was most impressive to see. Oddly though I've seen more than a few Polestars being given some beans from lights and also along A roads.

To be honest i,m surprised we don't see more of these crashed as they are quick and I bet a lot of the drivers have never driven a car that accelerates as quickly, still not for me though.

Question should be ‘How often do you see a Tesla?’

I've only seen one being given it all- being launched off the lights- he was on a D/C with some Audi electric thing by the side of him. The Audi didn't play along though!

All the others seem to plod along at 60-65mph on the motorway and steady everywhere else as well.
