A neighbour of mine reluctantly sold his 4 yr old X and got a Y. A significant downgrade in his opinion.
Just gone the other way and replaced my Model Y performance for a 2020 Model X Performance. Here is the Y leaving the drive.

Slight regression on the software/tech but so much nicer to waft around in the X. Really like both cars but the X has it for me hence the switch. Couldn’t afford a new X and had a good look around the new models (not test driven) not convinced by the LHD.

Prices are very close for a new Y to a 3 year old X.

Some joker on Autotrader is trying to flip a MS Plaid they haven';t taken delivery of yet for £175k - phone number links to Master Clutch in Peterborough, lets hope they get their fingers burnt, especially as Tesla have a number of inventory cars about to arrive, and on the continent they flog their demo cars with a 20-30k discount.

I went from X to Y and don't regret it. Don't really miss the loss of room and the drive is a lot better. The X wallowed a lot I suspect due to the air suspension but the Y is much more 'planted'

Yeah I'd say there's an approx. 0% chance of making anything other than a loss on one of these. hehe

Came across this yesterday when charging on the French/Swiss border.

Can anyone honestly tell there is a 6-7 year gap in factory production date and likely close to 70k miles difference between these cars?

I LOVE our X (its about to take us across the Swiss Alps), but even if there a RHD X onsale today, looking at the current pricing, the cost of change would be £70kish, the only real gain over our current X is about 70-100 miles more range, and a faster infotainment computer.

Money often has no meaning on PHs.....but you really must have ALOT of ££££££ to burn to even consider switching out of an old S/X into a one of the new ones. Tesla need to do alot better if they really want to sell the S/X again in any meaningful numbers, but I suspect they don't really care anymore.

Still, 1020bhp, hmmmmm.

That supercharger sucks, had to walk about half a mile to find a toilet as the place over the road was shut.

Personally I don't care that much about the Plaid mode, but the S/X are simply amazing family cars that do pretty much everything you ask of them.

1000 miles, 7 International boarders crossed, throw in a couple of Alpine passes, all in a 6 year old, small battery X with near 70k miles of degradation. No dramas, no issues, and as easy to cover ground in Europe as my old 335i.

Real shame Tesla has made the sensible financial decision not to spend $$$$$$ on R&D for these cars, they really are amazing family wagons to tour Europe in. If our did die, I would probably still lool at a LHD version!! Our X has really got under my skin.

My wife adores her MX100D. I really don't know with what we could replace it. Acres of space, fast and silent. Great infrastructure (we get free supercharging). I guess we'll run it till it dies.

It is interesting to compare those who own them - who seem to love them - with those who don't (who claim instead a Model Y would do most of the same job).

For my part, if Tesla went back to their earlier pricing policy on the X, and invested the same resources in production engineering / BoM reduction as they have on the 3/Y, I think it would still be selling at large volumes.

Same, I love my S, the only thing that currently ticks my boxes is a newer S or X.

I have 3 big kids and really need the boot space, plus I love the saloon body shape. A Taycan for example (which I really like) has way less boot space, no ability to tow and a much smaller back seat and limited access to the supercharger network.

All our Model S cars will go back in 13 months and unfortunately we won't be looking at Teslas again, primarily due to the LHD decision. Thoroughly enjoyed them though over the last 3 years, great fun to drive.

The future for us will be between Merc EQS AMG or BMW iX M60 and I'm looking forward to test driving them. Ranges are about right too.

Some 10 years ago we did Stelvio and Co in my old N54, Quaife + Bilstein equipped 335i. Really enjoyed the trip.

If you had told me at the time in 2023 would repeat the trip, but this time with 6 other people in one car, and that car would be an 6.5 years old EV I would have told you where to go.....Life is just crazy sometimes.

I'll update my X ownership thread at somepoint, but right now, given how competent a 6.5 year old small battery X that was literally stuffed to bursting with people and stuff can manage some of the best driving roads in Europe.....LHD ownership in the UK seems like a pretty trivial issue!!!

I’ve owned LHD drive cars in the UK and it is a pain.

It’s very different going on a short holiday abroad in a RHD vs buying and living with a LHD car in the UK especially when the car itself isn’t that special.

If you live here but spend a lot of the year on the continent but it doesn’t really make any sense otherwise.

What are the main points. If I can find a lease I am tempted by an X for a couple of years before I can get something like an ev9.
