In the nicest possible way, I believe my own senses rather than a YouTube video from Mat Watson.
That’s great.
And your point is?

Get an early dechromed heat pump car. I'd avoid the China built ones (any VIN start 5YJ on the M3) as the build wasn't so good

Doing so gets you:

Bigger battery than the earlier ones

Heatpump makes a noticeable difference in winter

Still has the parking sensors.

You might also want a car with the Ryzen CPU main screen as thats a bit more future proof, but very little in it unless you want to use zoom in the car

As for battery degradation, there are a couple of guides I'm familar with (because I wrote them), one using data avalable in the car, another uses the APi so not really applicable but gives much better benchmarking against other cars (has a about 100k data points in it now).

The performance v LR is an interesting debate. Tesla are not famous for their suspension, and "firmer" has never meant "better". Same with low profile tyres, at least not in the real world. The smaller wheels are much better suited to UK roads, plenty of stories of cracked rims from owners of M3P cars.

I’m confused about this. Consensus seems to be that the China built one are significantly better that the American ones.

The consensus is just that. Heres Johnny is talking rubbish.

China built VINs start LRW. You’re getting confused with US built cars

Sorry - brain fart on my part - it is the other way around as the VIN shows. Buy China

You can't actually get a dechomed, heat pump car made in the US in the UK.

I may be mistaken, but...

I thought some of the early 21 M3Ps were still made at Fremont, they'd would've had the heat pump, but not the heated steering wheel?

There were a handful built in late 2020 which were pseudo 2021 model year cars built in Fremont, but these didn’t include all the changes which came with the China production that started in Jan 2021, so arguably you’re right but I’d probably avoid them as well even if you can find one of the unicorns

Haha, no worries smile

I have a ‘unicorn’ 3SR+ ; heat pump, heated steering wheel and rear seats, LFP battery, faster acceleration. Great car. How often do you need 0-60 quicker than 5.2s?

We have a 2020 (69 plate) M3P and have no requirement for a second but I have a thing for the M3P-. The sleeper element is brilliant, small aero wheels yet the performance of the, well, performance!

You can. I have one.

One of the last US ones before they switched to China.

100% agree , but do sometimes wonder if it’s just a LR with a line of code!

Maybe it’s been bought, just a thought. Regardless they’re worth £30k after 3 years so still steep if you’re buying outright.

Ah well, I went into Tesla Heathrow to enquire.. and 5 minutes later I've ordered a new Model 3 Performance for £52k which was the same cost as my LR two years ago. I think I also got 10k miles of Supercharging. I'm hoping that the Performance will not depreciate as much as the LR but financially it is the same deal as I did 2 years ago so expenditure won't change but I have upgraded. Interest rate goes up from 4.9% from the 1st July. We expect prices to rise too. Is it a good deal? Time will tell.

Car is due mid July smile
