It will get even worse for insurance when they swap onto their "one-piece massive castings" manufacturing method. Have a front end bump and damage the casting? Written off, as there's no chassis legs to replace.

Fantastic for simplicity of manufacture. Horrendous for repairability.

I wonder at what point the marketing bods start to feed the customer voice around insurance costs back to the engineers...

The best or the worst?
The worst are always a comedy price as they don’t want you!

I pay £850 for my model 3 performance.

in my early 40's, 20 years no claims, with my wife as a named driver.

I also priced up an M340i, £800, so only £50 difference.

£726 fully comp on a MY long range for
me. On an Admiral multi car policy so about £65 discount but still pretty reasonable - 12 years NCD and no points but parked on drive rather than garaged.

Until seeing this, i didn't' even know that Jon Lewis did car insurance.

Worth noting, this is a temporary decision to stop offering EV insurance, and it seems it's a decision by Covea, who underwrites Jon Jewis Car Insurance.

"John Lewis Financial Services clarified that the decision to halt insurance offerings for electric vehicles is temporary while Covéa analyzes the associated risks and costs"

A Model Y performance is about £1100, compared to a Kia EV6 GT at £700.

There definitely seems to a premium for the Tesla.

Quotes for my model 3 in the 3 years of me owning it with me not claiming anything nor getting any speeding fines

- £605
- £768
- £1202 is my latest renewal quote.

A quick look on a comparison site showed it can come down to £900 with a £900 excess but that is insane.

ALA do insurance to cover your excess. £1K for around £40. Never considered such a thing before, but starting to make sense.

I've done this each year for the last 3 years, makes a huge difference to the cost.

My insurance is up for renewal in early December and based on the c.40% increase on our Kona electric insurance, I expect an even bigger increase for my LR.

The one thing to be aware of with these policies, the excess cover tends to only pay out if the overall claim exceeds the excess. ie if you had a minor bump that could be repaired for £800 you couldn't claim if your excess was £1000 on the main policy. It's fine if you get a £10k claim, but I'd argue doesn't really help with the minor stuff where you might prefer a cheaper repair than invoke any insurance claim and have to decalre it for the next x years.

I had assumed that.
