Yeah I dont think the RWD is as good a proposition as a used car.

I get why you would get one new. Its £10,000 extra for the LR.

But as a used car the price difference is more like £2,000 which is defo worth it IMO.
Ok. The price difference wasn't a major influencing factor for me. I just thought the RWD was perfect for my needs and I have no regrets driving

As I said in a previous comment. When looking at LR's, if AWD is important to you, check that it's actually an AWD because Tesla did release a number of RWD LR's to the market. I think they were mainly sold to the 'fleet' but clearly some will have made their way onto the used market now.

Cheers, as usual I am on a time crunch. I think if I could hang on another 5 weeks it would be beneficial but I am now without a car and my wife is going into hospital in 2 weeks so I will 100% need a car.

Just had a dealer tell me they are going to do a full ENGINE service and MOT for their £199 admin charge.

Well its not got an engine and its not due its first MOT till December.

Ah... yes but but but we offer 6 months warranty and break down cover.

Erm ok... but its under warranty / roadside from tesla till 2025! Sigh.

Deposit down on a 71 plate LR. Collecting tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your advice.

Just one final question, I have a Tesla account and I have the app.

When I go to collect I assume the seller needs to give me "ownership" of the car in the app?

My M3LR is by far the best car I've ever owned and this is making me thinking about getting a used performance or SR as a second car. Hope you enjoy yours.

Thanks all, got her home safe and sound smile

The tech is taking some getting used too but I think in a week or two it will be second nature.
I am looking forward to giving it a good detail and getting out on a nice country road.

It was very enjoyable being in a traffic jam on the M6 just letting the car do the driving.

My arse-o-dyno (highly calibrated) so far thinks its not quite as fast as the iPace, but very close.
I have yet to really give it the beans from standstill though so I reserve the right to change my mind!

I now have the joyous process of trying to explain how it all works to my wife who is about as technologically skilled as a house brick.

I'm pleased to hear you finally found one.

I was sceptical about the tech, thinking it would take a long time to work everything out. Tesla staff were great though because they set up some of the basics for me when I collected the car. Once I made a few personal adjustments, everything else fell into place quite quickly. I'm sure it will soon become quite intuitive for you too.

As for explaining everything to your wife, without being patronising to her, the best advice is to run through how to use voice control. In my experience it works quite well and makes the day-to-day whilst driving adjustments really easy.

My wife doesn't drive so she isn't interested in anything apart from how to put her seat heater on. She did make me laugh shortly after taking delivery of the car though. She told me she was cold so I pressed the scroll button and said 'set the temperature to ?? degrees'. My wife immediately replied (thinking I was talking to her) with 'how do I do that?'. I still think she believes voice control is some voodoo magic!

Tip. On narrow roads with other vehicles approaching, using voice control, I find the mirrors only fold at slower speeds. It also takes a second or two for the mirrors to respond. Fine if you see a vehicle well in advance but a nuisance if they appear from nowhere on a tight bend for example. #FirstWorldProblem

Looking at same car/similar budget OP.

Did you manage to get one within budget? What sort of mileage? Did you end up buying from Tesla?

Thank you and hope you’re getting on well with it.

I paid £27k as a private purchase for a December 2022 Long Range.

It has just done 30k miles.

I did not buy from Tesla. The same car from Tesla is 3 to 4k more plus a 4 to 6 week wait for it.

Yep going good so far.

I think my only comment would be, having now had a look at a lot of these cars - is be careful for condition.
Scrapes on the paint, marks on the inside, worn steering wheel, kerbed wheels.

IME, a lot of Tesla owners are not "car people" and just hammer the sh*t out of them. Fill them with kids and dogs and if you are lucky they run it through a car wash every 6 months.

I saw a lot of very ratty 2 year old cars.

Mine has 2 badly kerbed wheels and a couple of minor scrapes on the front bumper.

I think its par for the course. You can of course find ones in good condition but its a bit of a lottery.

I very nearly bought one from a car supermarket for 28995 with 28k on the clock. It was immaculate (it had clearly been prepped well).

But for 2000 I can get the wheels sorted and the front bumper repaired (probably wont bother tbh) and still be 1500 up.

That’s really helpful, thank you. And that new, they will have the Tesla warranty balance anyway so probably a good tip to broaden the search! 👍

Or, like me, you’re a huge car enthusiast who is extremely careful with their cars, only for their wife to slowly destroy them. cryhehe

Yeah there are defo some people who are enthusiasts. But I would say the majority are not car people, they are just technology types.

Like you say wife / kids treat it like a play thing and before you know it there is a lot of wear and tear on it.

Its just something to be mindful of when looking at used.

I am into my detailing and I am already starting to itch over a few things and its been 4 days LOL..

First job will be to sort those wheels. I cant deal with that!

Congrats!

Interesting to hear your experiences with the cars you've already looked at. Will keep that in mind when I start looking for a 2022 M3P later on this year.

How did the handover go with regards to the “ownership” thing in the app?

I’m supposed to be collecting mine on Wednesday (non-Tesla dealer) and hope to set up for supercharging etc for the journey home. I read something about “purchased from a third-party” option on the app?
