Yep so what we did

Before collection

I create a tesla account (I already had one as I had an M3 on order when they first came out)
I download the app. Open it and check it loads etc.

On collection

In the car go to Service > Factory Reset (the owner will need to know their password)
Wait for the reset to go through, takes a few minutes.

Then.

Owner then opens app. Manage products > Remove > Get Started > Follow instructions
(it will ask for new owner name, email address)
Submit this.
Seller will then get an email with a code. They put this code in on the app.

Wait 60 seconds.
Open your app.
The car should be showing.

Go to your tesla account by going directly to the tesla website on a browser and log into account.
On the dashboard select "payment method" and add your card.

You are then set up as the new owner and will have access to super charging.

The whole process takes about 10 minutes and most of that is waiting for the factory reset!
The actual handover in the app takes maybe 2 minutes.

Check there are 2 key cards too - they are easy to misplace! They will work if you cant get the app to work but tbh I would not accept the car until you have full control in the app.

HTH

Oh if its a dealer they will have probably already done the factory reset btw - just check before you do anything.

I am sure they will know the process.

Thanks for the reply and info.

I’m sure it’s not the first Tesla they’ve sold so hopefully they know what they’re doing. I’ll definitely be sure to set up a Tesla account and download the app the night before.

Hope you’ve been enjoying your new car. I’m very excited but slightly nervous too.

Well ran into my first problem. Out today with the wife driving (she is technologically cursed I swear!) the car suddenly decided "phone key not in car".
Hm. Then the radio turned off and would not come back on. Got home. Did a 2 button "reset" and the radio and phone now ok. Weird.

Then as I got out of the car I noticed 1 headlamp was dead. FFS.

So, service booked for next week. Anyone know if you can request a ranger or do you have to go to main dealer? Its a 40 mile round trip.

Plus I need to get a taxi there and back I guess. Or will they give me a courtesy car?

I don't use the key card but I know it's important to ensure it's placed correctly (just beneath the armrest on the centre console). I'd question why you don't use your phone though? I thought I'd only ever use the card but changed my mind after a couple of days. The phone works so well in my experience.

I've had to do a couple of resets but the last time I did one was a while ago now. It's worth reporting it Tesla because they'll at least have a record of the problem. That way, if it happens frequently in the future, they'll know about it. I'm sure they can do a remote reset too if needed. They did a remote software update for me once.

If you've booked the service via the App, I believe Tesla will tell you if you need to take the car to them or whether a Ranger can come to you. I needed Tesla once, to fix a very minor issue. That was the day after I collected the car. The Ranger came to me. Very easy process too.

Very annoying about the headlight. I hope this is just a one off and doesn't spoil your overall experience with the car.

I am using the phone rather than the card. It lost connection to the phone for some reason, but at the same time the radio went off and would not find any channels. I wonder if its a module playing up maybe that controls both? A radio module perhaps.

Anyway, they confirmed the appointment so I guess I am going to the SC.

I have asked about a loaner. Will see what happens.

Ok. I misunderstood about the key card.

I think the message you've received should or will confirm where the repair will take place. It might be that you'll get another message later. Hopefully a Ranger will come to you but I guess it depends upon how easy the headlight repair will be. If it needs replacing, will that have to be done at a Tesla service centre?

If you get another software issue, Tesla told me you can easily register that with them. I can't remember exactly how but I think it's with a long press on the left scroll button. Check with Tesla.

Cheers.

I just had a look on the forums and it seems that head light replacements (they are not serviceable items!) are generally done at the SC as they need to set it up. Ah well.

I had a 70-plate LR as a loaner for a couple of days. With the Acceleration Boost. OMFG that thing was rapid - called it "Lethal Weapon" on the video I shot...

Had a bit of a play with the car yesterday in some NSLs.
Its defo quick. From a stand still it does, IMO, not feel as quick as the iPace.
I think from 0-40 the ipace has the legs.

But over 40 the LR feels very punchy and muscular. It feels like its torque limited below about 30.

I expect thats what they have done to give acceleration boost option.

You do have to be very careful of speeds, you can hit 80+ quite easily if you are already 40-50.

Overall, its fast enough for me. Given the state of the roads and the nature of traffic these days its not really possible to use the performance if you live in a city anyway and of course it eats the range.

Headlamp replaced under warranty today, did it whilst I waited.
£1400 inc labour ouch. Bit irritating that you cant talk to anyone, the drop off pick up was smooth enough but there were a couple of things I wanted to ask about. anyway, sorted now.

£1400.00 yikes It's good that you got it fixed under warranty. How long did it take to replace the headlight? If you have more questions, maybe you can contact your local Tesla store. I know people have mixed experiences but staff often move around from stores, to service centres, to pick-up locations so there's a chance you might get someone who's quite knowledgable. It's happened to me before where I get one person who knows very little, then on the next visit, I get someone who is very knowledgeable.
