Somehow dealerships seem to know how many orders have been placed.

Toyota Sheffield have also confirmed that a total of 250 orders have been placed with Toyota UK, and this was posted on one of the Lotus forums.

"Was shocked no deposits made in Sheffield, and I was the first to even enquire with them about the car!".

The biggest surprise I guess is that Toyota Sheffield had had no deposits placed to date...

I’m joining the club hopefully, pre-ordered last night.

Will my chosen dealer contact me to finalise details or do I need to chase them?

To date, it appears circa 250 orders is correct.

I’m about half an hour from Guildford so tempted, but my pre-order is with the Croydon dealership (an entirely different group) so feels like it might be a bit awkward...?
Sod that, I'm trying. As it is Guildford don't seem to be aware of the preview! Spoke to them just now.
I spoke to a chap named Nick there earlier today, and have booked a preview slot.

Why? If you have pre-ordered they will contact you. Nothing is going to happen now until the demo's arrive in October.

Due to the response ive had from 3 Toyota dealerships, in the end I had to go into the one that's got my deposit 3 times, as phone calls and promises didn't happen, the third time even though I had a appointment, the salesman I was due to see was on holiday, so knowing what I know now if I was you I'd keep on them, unless you lucky.

Is the no of orders cars to be built in total or purely customer orders?

ie there are approximately 150 official Toyota dealers in the UK would all / most of them ordering demos count in the total? If so thats possibly only about 100 customer orders!

I think there are more than just kentbloke and I who have put deposits down at the same dealer so I'd guess there must be many dealers who have not asked for a demo. It is possible that companies have ordered one to move around several dealerships? I was the first in at mine and got a very low deposit because they were happy to just take it as a stock demo order if I didn't sign up after a demo. Possibly that is the way other dealerships with more than one deposit have gone as well?

Great. That’s a forward step since yesterday when they weren’t taking slots or even apparently aware the car would be there.

Only 250 orders to date...I think most will be waiting till they have poke and a prod at one before commiting to an order, if the expected orders don't materialise there will be discounts no doubt about it the last thing Toyota would want is there new flagship hot hatch hanging about in the showroom.

Interesting. I spoke to a chap by the name of Nick and he certainly indicated that Guildford will be getting their car in on Saturday morning and that it will be detailed and ready by noon, so should I wish, I could book a suitable slot, so I did...

Jeez, maybe i should ring again and check as I can only make 9am and won't be best pleased if I make the journey and its not available. Is anyone else feeling like this is the most effort they've had to put in to buy a car to date?! It's like they don't want to sell them, the lack of solid information from the top down is incredible!

It was Nick I spoke to. Odd. I guess I spoke to him before he’d been brought up to date.

I see from Toyota that these are Pre Production cars, no word on if they can run them, but you can sit in them, I wonder how different they can be? I had the same thing with the Mk3 focus rs, the car in the showrooms was a lhd pre production car.

They will be built to order. Order books close soon after demos become available and all the UK cars arrive at the same time. They are already offering 0% so a significant carrot already. They no longer need to build 20k cars so every chance it could turn into a short run limited edition.

No doubt built to order would significantly increase the special appeal and value of them for some people hoping they can flip them for profit/greed.

So what is the latest when the dealers will be getting demos.

Why don't they need to build 20k cars?
