Nice one, ty! Anyone got details on the workings of the AWD system?

Now red or black? Hm. Red I think smile.

Edit: video proof that a CVT version exists (as a concept)

Edit2: I think we need to come up with some sticker thanking Prius drivers for their contribution to Toyota's fleet emissions smile.

Actually that is a good point. Toyota got into the hybrid game very early, and in Europe, nearly everything they sell is hybrid. This means that they can easily hit EU emissions targets which then gives them the franchise to create bonkers cars like this.

I read elsewhere that VW and PSA have stated that they will exit the city car (e.g. VW Up, Citroen C1) market because they cannot make the economics work given the emissions targets. Toyota have stated that they will stay in because they are able to make very small hybrid systems and make them cheap enough for a city car.

Precisely this. Toyota (and Lexus) have such a broad range of hybrids, the stringent CAFE targets (average CO2 emissions dictated by EU) are within reach, so they can build GT Yaris, GR Supra and Hilux etc.

Other brands, largely dependent on ICE diesel and petrol with huge parc are not so fortunate, so not only will they drop more emitting models, will probably have to drop others in range too in order to reduce fleet average.

I put a deposit down on Saturday.

Dealer thinks they’ll end up around £35k optioned. Will be ordering the track pack. Orders should be taken April/May for September delivery.

I never thought we’d see another car like the Pulsar GTi-R, the 323 GT-X/GT-R or Impreza STI Type R again but here we are.

Roll on September smile

Yup, unfortunately this affects some niche products with PH interest. Couple of casualties top of my head: Ibiza Cupra, Clio RS, 208 GTI, manual gearbox Polo GTI, 3k price hike on 2.0 MX5 ND -- and of course all the stillborn projects -- in doubt, the manufacturers use their Co2 budget on some fecking SUV, not on something nice...

And amidst all the doom & gloom, this little Yaris smile.

Pretty hard to beat first post if I may say so smile. Congrats and thanks for the data point! Hope they really end up in customer hands by September. Off to harass the local Toyota dealer next weekend...

Thats contrary to Toyotas own info with their Japanese website saying deliveries will be at the end of 2020. It is also all over the website that the period for specifying the 1st Edition is July start to end. Given the lag between specifying the 1st editions in Japan and their no doubt prioritization in terms of delivery, I really really doubt you'll see a GR Yaris delivered before November 2020.

Indeed ann with you a lot people, I remember the days of the Nissan Sunny GTI-R very well, I had 6 of those in the past, all Sunny and all LHD, those were mine, sadly old scanned in pictures (did not had a digital camera back then)

and ow, I tuned them all a bit, 270hp minimum and some 300hp, also lowered them a bit and a bit bigger wheels for better road work.

Your welcome, put me down for 2 badges please as both me and my wife have Toyota hybrids (Auris and ES300H)

Regarding emissions evidently the GR will be more polluting than say a 1l i3 city car, or an alternatively fuelled vehicle, however I expect many potential customers will be coming from larger vehicles with much worse emissions, after all its ‘just a Yaris’ by dimensions and weight (ok its the biggest and heaviest Yaris, but it’s still a small car)
It’s interesting to think how modern fleet emissions effects manufacturers ability to produce cars seen as exciting, in many ways this car suggests a return to the heyday of the 90s where Toyota and others were able to produce fantastic cars that offered the customer much more bang for their buck than many of the traditional alternatives.. I can’t wait to drive one

Surely there isn’t much offsetting required for this car. Sure it’s a bit of a laugh but it’s only a 1.5 3 cylinder light car. It’s going to do 50mpg cruising about. It’s not like they have thrown a Hellcat out to balance the hybrids.

Toyota should nick that and use it as the advertising slogan for this car!

Thank you.

Toyota: I'll accept a Yaris GR as payment for the slogan, if you're watching... hehe

Well, it's worth a try... Or a spare GRMN if you've got one knocking around

Awesome, love a Pulsar. My sister and brother in law had a matching pair, I also bought and exported one for a friend in Finland. Fun cars smile
