Regarding emissions evidently the GR will be more polluting than say a 1l i3 city car, or an alternatively fuelled vehicle, however I expect many potential customers will be coming from larger vehicles with much worse emissions
I'll be selling/px'ing my E82 135i for the GR smile

I be selling my Ford Fiesta ST and have a Yaris GR next to my M2.

RWD and AWD rally setup best of both worlds.

Now we need a new smaller nimbler BMW M2 with 350hp and 1200kg. My heavy M2C weight is 1635kg. My wifes X1 is lightersmile

GT86 is very close to the original M3 E30 specs. 'Only' need to add a supercharger and some reinforced rods.

Rumours are that the next gen Gazoo Racing GT86 will have 250+hp, also a new MR2 developed with Porsche is in the works. MR2 on the Boxster/Cayman platform would be amazing.

At least the M2C has a decent amount of torque though. The E92 M3 weighs about the same but it has much less torque. Catch the M3 in the wrong gear and you wonder if there is actually an engine under its bonnet!! hehe

All joking aside though it is mad that Bmw's smallest car weighs that much for sure. That is why I don't really see the benefit of going for a M2 over a M4, because it isn't like the M2 is lighter and more nimble. Plus the M4 offers far more options colour wise both inside and out as well. I wouldn't say no to either though. cool

Yeah 295lb/ft from a 4.0 V8 is a bit anemic.

TBH the weight is the thing I like the least about my E82 135i, it's fast enough, but you can really feel its heft.

Probably doesn't help that my other car is a Eunos Roadster RS.

Exciting times then.

Toyota had some great cars in the 80's & 90's

I remember a Celica Carlos Sainz being unloaded from a Transporter, Those bonnet vents!!

And the first time I saw the Supra, 1987 I think. Amazing in it's day.

And now to 2020 they've got a car I want to buy again.

Thank you Toyota, I've missed you.

They do seem to be returning to form, really cool to see.

I hope Nissan follow suit, and Mazda make good on a return of the rotary.

Japan used to produce so many interesting fun cars.

Yep have to agree, up till the end of the 90's most of the Japanese manufacturers had at least a couple of PH type products in their line-up. Then it seemed they all just decided to stop doing them and produce boring shopping trolleys instead.

Now you could argue that they just went after the product that sells and cut back on things that didn't really make them money but halo cars like this Yaris do a lot more than can be judged by a balance sheet. The PR, kudos and marketing from these cars is what puts those manufacturers in the limelight so I always thought ditching them was a massive false economy.

Suzuki should follow suit, not as extreme but the Ignis is around 900kilos and comes in 4wd, stick the 1.4 boosterjet in, tuned a bit and you would have a good contender.

Is there a bigger hatch than a Yaris in the Toyota range?

I’m not really up on modern cars, especially Toyota but a Yaris is a tiny little car isn’t it?

I like the concept but I’m sure they’re smaller than a clio?

Guess there’s hope for other sporty models seeing as we’ve had the supra and now this announced. Be nice if they were also planning something akin to an old corolla size hatch with a 2.0 & 4wd but I guess it’s highly unlikely given the Yaris is bred from rally intentions.

I’m a big 4wd hatch turbo fan (owned lots of GTIR’s and Impreza wagons) but I’m not sure about something that small. Or maybe it’s totally different.

Yaris is Clio sized. Maybe you are thinking of the Aygo?

Toyota have the Corolla in the range too which is the bigger hatch

While it's technically in the same segment as a Clio, it's smaller than a Clio and one of the smallest cars in that class. I've used the word small a lot there, basically it's not a big car so despite the 4 doors and rear seats, I'd still not call it very family friendly.

Brilliant that they are making it of course but I'd echo some of the comments on here, go and do the same treatment on a bigger car please Toyota\Gazoo.

The GR is near as damnit the same height and length as a GTi-R, but around 4 inches wider

Toyota make some pretty mental small cars for the JDM Market, a 3.5 litre V6 Auris sleeper for example
