Just seen that Andy74b (on PH and Instagram) has a yaris arriving next week to add to his fleet of Mclaren F1 GTR, F40, singer Porsche and many other superb cars of his collection.

Well that’s disappointing I have to say.https://instagram.com/andy74b?igshid=1pxa98n5acf0n
I was hoping that we’d be able to swap keys to the GR and F1 GTR for a weekend.
About the only difference between his dream garage and mine is that he owns his.

Having said that, cost aside I still struggle to believe that somebody would actually desire a Toyota Yaris more than a Porsche 718 GTS 4.0.
Having had a 981S I don't desire a 718 4.0 at all - wonderfully capable car though it is. The Yaris isn't as well rounded as the Porsche - but it's much more fun.ferrisbueller said:

I too cancelled a 718 GTS 4.0 for the GR.
I'm honestly looking forward more to the Toyota than I was the Porsche.
If this is true then you have had a lucky escape, because you were obviously making a very big mistake(at least financially) ordering the Porsche in the first place.I'm honestly looking forward more to the Toyota than I was the Porsche.
A lot more money than the GR, but not following your logic.
It’s residuals should be as good as a GR, if not better?

From reading your reply we appear to be on the same page but you do not realise it yet, so I will explain my logic. A lot more money than the GR, but not following your logic.

For somebody who really wants to buy a Porsche like this they tend to be very enthusiastic about the brand and driving in general...they know exactly what they want.
To then change their mind and dismiss the Porsche in favour of a Toyota Yaris(doesn't matter which model), would suggest that their heart was never truly in the Porsche in the first place.
Hence my "lucky escape" because the buyer will now get the car they really want at half the price.

If the choice is a Yaris or a 718, then you need to look at what questions got you to that point. I don't think people are buying a Yaris instead of a Porsche. It's a Yaris and £35k in the bank, which is different and what you end up with is very different.
I wouldn't daily drive a 718 or a GT3 for that matter. I would daily drive the Yaris. I don't think the presence of a Yaris renders a GT3 or similar instantly redundant. Different tools for different jobs.

While I wouldn't daily a GT3, no reason not to daily a Cayman GTS4.0 - considerably more refined and to all intents and purposes as practical as a Yaris. Personally as I have said I wouldn't want to daily the Yaris - but I had no problem dailying my Cayman.Blissy0 said:

Seems an ECU remap is some way off. https://www.litchfieldmotors.com/blog/toyota-gr-ya...

Interesting that Litchfield found a significant difference in Geo between their two cars. Might be worth owners checking their cars.https://www.litchfieldmotors.com/blog/toyota-gr-ya...

Still early days I guess. I do like the stance of the white one, makes quite a positive difference to the overall look. I’m not a fan of cars that are too low. Interesting re the comments about the difference between the two cars out the box set up, so sounds like a proper geometry set up is worthwhile.

Mine is coming in two weeks (in Switzerland) - Basic White + Track Pack. Having been putting money aside for a 981 Boxster / Cayman S / GTS but bang for but, felt this little thing was a better, more fun package! Had it on demo for a couple of hours and was grinning like a loon the whole time. Fab car!
You'll need to take care with speed in Switzerland ... when I worked there I was handed a sheet showing how little excess speed would send me directly to gaol ...If I remember correctly, for lower speeds I believe that if banned there was the option for mobility of a moped ?

I own a 981 GT4 which has been modified to suit ... to me it's far better than when it was new, but I have spent over £20k on Manthay and Porsche motorsport components. I also own a Yaris GRMN which is my goto "hooligan" car ... 24000 miles on the GT4 at 5 years and 14000 miles on the GRMN at 30 months.
Let the mileage speak for itself.
In terms of cost for fun, I can quite understand anybody choosing the Toyota over the GT4.

The notion of using a £70k plus car as my daily, with all that entails, is far beyond my comfort zone.
But if I were to buy a car like the Yaris or, say, an MX5 which wouldn't satisfy all my daily needs, then I would need another car - so I would likely spend a similar amount on two cars. If, of course, you are happy to daily the GRY - quite a few on here clearly are - then it's a different argument.PhilPol said:

But the suspension mods look very interesting. The first modification I made to my 981GT4 after simple geo mods was a set of KW Clubsport 3 way dampers valved to Manthay settings for the Nurburgring ... having given a lot of passenger rides both on track and on the road, passengers who own GT4's can't believe the difference.
It is quite possible to make a car more compliant on the road and more composed on the track ... particularly with fast-bump enabling kerbs to be run without disrupting the composure of the car, effectively making it feel much narrower than it is.

I know Raeder motorsport (Manthey) are working with apex on their car so will see what they come up with for handling.
