Good news Spoke to Toyota dealer Worcestershire area . Confirmed 1st batch in 2021 arriving next week . My PW circuit pack being one of them. They are getting 12 across 3 dealers . No visibility on next batch and now taking orders for 2022 .

Any other cars arriving around the country next week ?
My car for Northampton hopefully. Was due last week but delays between port and dealer. Can't wait. Oh and i have come out of a 991.1 GT3 and have had a 570s and a GT4 previously.

Surely the GR Yaris is not superior to a 4.0 n/a Porsche, just very different. I would have thought the one major reason why this car has caught the imagination of so many different types of buyer is because it is so unique.

Some people are in the market for a hot hatch to use as a main/sole car, and it ticks those boxes very well. It's a car that can be used every day in all road conditions all year round and has reasonable comfort/refinement/economy/practicality. But it can also perform on the odd track day and for special leisure drives at the weekend.

Then there are people who choose it as a 2nd or 3rd or 4th (etc) car, for a multitude of reasons. For me as a fun runabout, and winter sports car. It excels in that role too.

What is significant is that this is a car that appears to stand alone in this multi-appeal. I don't see any other small relatively accessible performance car that has generated this level of interest from so many car enthusiasts. Be it people who have various other sports and super cars in their stable or people who will use it as their sole practical affordable daily driver.

The fact that this car seems to unite the car enthusiast community in their interest to own and drive the nuts off this car is a reason to be cheerful in what is a becoming an increasingly difficult passion to justify to non-petroheads.

I too cancelled a 718 GTS 4.0 for the GR.
I'm honestly looking forward more to the Toyota than I was the Porsche.
If this is true then you have had a lucky escape, because you were obviously making a very big mistake(at least financially) ordering the Porsche in the first place.
A lucky escape from ordering a Porsche as close to a GT product as they have ever done?
A lot more money than the GR, but not following your logic.
It’s residuals should be as good as a GR, if not better?
That's the other problem with Porsche, most of the owners DON'T buy the cars to drive they think they are in investment, no car is an investment except the GT cars OPCs hand out to their mates to flip. Take a look at how many times residuals are mentioned in the Porsche area of Piston Heads....I buy cars to drive and enjoy, money never enters my head once if I can afford it. I didn't enjoy anything about my Porsche ownership experience, nothing, I'm enjoying my ownership experience of the GR Yaris more already and I don't take delivery until May/June.

From reading your reply we appear to be on the same page but you do not realise it yet, so I will explain my logic. smile
For somebody who really wants to buy a Porsche like this they tend to be very enthusiastic about the brand and driving in general...they know exactly what they want.
To then change their mind and dismiss the Porsche in favour of a Toyota Yaris(doesn't matter which model), would suggest that their heart was never truly in the Porsche in the first place.
Hence my "lucky escape" because the buyer will now get the car they really want at half the price.

Having said that, cost aside I still struggle to believe that somebody would actually desire a Toyota Yaris more than a Porsche 718 GTS 4.0. eek
Better believe it.........I do.

Interesting that Litchfield found a significant difference in Geo between their two cars. Might be worth owners checking their cars.
First thing I wondered about because of the differing reports about steering feel that I'd read, I'd already planned to have the geo checked when I get my car in May/June. I was thinking about contacting Centre Gravity for some advice and possibly have them set the car up.

While most cars have quite a range of in spec settings, there can be optimum settings that are usually found by experience or the knowledge that people like CG have.

I had my Honda S2000 Geo set up at CG and it was a different car, stability at high speed (100mph+) was sacrificed for more feel and less understeer at lower speeds. Best £250 I've ever spent on a car.

Me too. Price does help, unless one is a billionaire that does come into play. But if I really wanted a GTS 4.0 that is what I would get (even if it takes a bit longer).... Goes the other way too, if I really wanted a e.g. Clio 172, I would buy that instead of the GRY... That's kinda how it works for me, if I really want it, I tend to get it...

Bit like the Fiesta ST discussion in the other thread upended, it's not the same, and while some are shopping for something in the GRY category and/or price bracket, quite some of us weren't shopping for any car, in any price bracket (up to a varying degree obviously). Other cars don't matter, we just want the GRY...

And check the tyre pressures! Quite a few cars have had very high pressures for delivery that haven’t been checked before handover will make a big difference.

Thanks. That's not a bad build and delivery time but I guess you missed the ramp up in demand after the UK reviews went live.

Can we make this a sticky? hehe

I didn’t want another hatchback, I was planning on getting an Elise next, but the lack of rear seats and boot for occasional kid and bike ferrying meant I started looking at plus two alternatives, few and far between. I considered a GT-86 with a Cosworth supercharger most recently.

I would never usually consider a brand new car either. Paying VAT on a car is for mugs.

Then I booked a test drive of the GRY to see what all the fuss was about, and confirm that I definitely wouldn’t even fit in the driver’s seat. I walked back in the showroom and said ‘yes, I’ll take one’.

This is the one fly in the ointment for me as using it as my work car/daily driver it'll do 12-15000mls a year so that works out to be quite expecive servicing costs compared to my current work horse which asks for a service every 16000mls.

Had the message today to say that mine has started build. Originally the dealer said end feb/early March for delivery, I’m in no rush, not even got hold of a test drive yet.

How long have others taken to arrive after build start?
Ooh now it has finished build, the dot is now on ‘left the factory’ just a tick away from getting on the boat.

I think I’m in the minority of I’d prefer it to be later in the year, when hopefully it’ll be possible to use it! Still a few weeks to decide I guess.

Do 6k a year and servicing costs look pretty reasonable. Do 12 or more and you are getting up to Porsche prices.

I think Toyota are anticipating that it will be driven quite hard. To be fair ... I change the oil on my GT4 (which gets a lot of track use) every 3000 miles. This Toyota check is £50 if not concurrent with an annual or 6000 mile service when it's free ?

McLaren insist that for track work cars should be checked before and after each outing ...
