1280kg is quite an achievement considering. My Evo 5rs without AC is meant to be 1260kg, and it feels like it’s made of tin foil in comparison
My 2005 ep3 Type-R was low 1200kgs but the drivers window would rattle when part open. You can tell where the weight saving came from.

My 2005 Impreza was rock solid from inside other than boot lid felt tinny, but this was closer to 1500kg.

Right. Doubly so considering the amount of extra safety/compliance equipment modern cars have to carry.

For context, true wet weight on a Mk7 Golf R hatchback is 1600kg.

I had an 03 Impreza STI a few years ago and I was thinking the GR Yaris would be about the same weight wise... Was shocked when I realised the Yaris is 200kg lighter!!

From the original VW UK webpage at the time....

Unladen Weight
Manual Transmission (kg) 1476
Auto-DSG Transmission (kg) 1495

And unladen in the UK doesn't include any fuel, so if the other weights being used for comparision include fuel, then you need to lob on another 50kgs or so on to the weight above.

Manufacturer numbers and government site, versus a german magazine THAT ACTUALLY WEIGHED THE CAR THEMSELVES (with a full tank).

Hmm which one to pick...

I think the latest lead time somebody quoted a page or so back was now into 2021, but prior to that it was October, so it seemed to jump suddenly. I would check with your nearest dealer.

Online deposit is still £250.

Seems about right - I note that test was a 5-door model with full tank

Autocar weighed a 3-door with half a tank and that came in at 1410 kg

Are we being strictly fair comparing the weight of the GR to the older rally jobbers. After all they were a segment or 2 up.
The awd Subaru Justy had a kerb weight of 760kg hehe

Not saying it's right, but I didn't make it up.

Although a long options list may make up the difference... Pano roof can't be light.

I think it’s only a bit of fun, just to put it in context of the last lot of rally homologation cars. I commented a couple of months ago that the power and weight of the GR is similar to the 22B STi Impreza, 276 bhp and 1,250 kg (DIN), which was obviously a very rapid car back in 1999. Try getting one of those beauties for £34k now!
