After some reflection I’ve now just put down a deposit on a second one.

I don’t think there’s any need to have one at each home.

Boom.

Chapeau.

You could at least have the decency to buy one in each colour.

What is the situation with cancelled orders being "sold on", surely that is not allowed??

I was late in the game to get my order in, but would expect a cancelled order to allow me to move up the ladder, not be sold on to someone else, who was even later in the game than me!

Just feeling a bit miffed as was told that it would not happen!
Quite hard to give a short answer and not ramble on too much, and keep it all relevant!
I can only speak from my experience, some dealers/franchises may have a different process.

If someone cancels, which does happen, we try where possible to bring some forward, I’ve already done this twice for PH member orders.
....but it’s not always as simple as you’d think.

Lets say it’s Black, and it’s due in mid March, and I’ve got 10 other customers in the queue wanting a Black one.

Some of them are happy to wait, and would prefer to, they may already having a car going back at the end of a PCP so being early doesn’t help them. So they are out.

Some want it sooner, but I can’t offer a test drive until April, and the customer won’t commit until he’s driven one, so they’re out.

The car will arrive in March, and now the dealer has to pay Toyota the £30K+ for the car within 14 days, and none of the queue can fully commit. What do you do?
Sell it to someone who calls up, who will buy it there and then?

Is that fair? Yes and No!

If I do find someone in the queue who can commit, I’ll then need to call everyone again to see if they want to come forward a slot, and it’s all a bit of a ball ache from a Toyota order system perspective, it shouldn’t be, but it is.

So I can see why dealers will sell the cancelled ordered slot to a fresh customer, It can just be much easier for them.

We’ve got a pre-production model in on February 30th if you’d like to come in, take it out for a few hours if you’d like?

Worst ‘I’ve got 3+ homes’ ever. hehe

I love it, leave a GR Yaris at each home like it’s a lawnmower.

Different colour I hope?

So if somebody is really desperate for theirs sooner, they should phone their dealer every day to see if there has been a cancellation?

I’d probably suggest speaking directly to your salesman, make him fully aware you want a GR asap, you are 100% ready to move with the funding, and flexible on colour.

There’s a chance you’d come forward when there’s a slot. Calling every day would probably piss them off a bit.

The second dealer claims they have a ore-order that is available this year.

I’m sceptical, but we’ll see.

If you are desperate for a car ring the dealer and give them a deposit over the phone for first refusal on any cancellations.

Either that or ring a few dealers and tell them you'll give a credit card deposit right there if they have a cancellation.

Ringing every day isn't going to get you a car.

Grrrr, this car is annoyingly tempting

Anyone know if the torsen diffs are really essential on the road ? After an EVO and an STi I can't imagine a car of this type without them ?

Just saw this video. 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwpAvzKdPg0

Guess it will only be a matter of time until the 4 second barrier is broken. If a tuning box is enough for this already.

Nope. Sounds totally reasonable to me.
I totally get it, to me a refundable deposit is not really a deposit. In my mind you put down a deposit to show willing, if you pull out of the deal then you lose the deposit and it compensates the seller for their wasted time / lost opportunity.

I think 4 seconds is achievable I think one of the magazines autocar/whatcar got about 4.4 seconds on a stock car.

Must be at the limit of what is achievable in a manual? (With gear change)

With an ITG filter and the DTUK box you’re looking at just over 300bhp and 400nm.

I would say for you I expect they would be necessary.

I doubt it will be too long before diffs come up for sale though...once a few get "bent"

Sooner than you may think...

I’ll also place a copy of this on the ‘things to check on pick up day’ thread!
