Toyota extends warranty to 10 years, if serviced with them

Have passed that on to my Toyota-owning friends. Seems a decent deal to me.
Obviously doesn't cover consumables etc, and I bet they've done the maths on how often their stuff goes wrong vs the servicing revenue, but it'll likely be better cover than an aftermarket warranty, and the cost of Toyota servicing should be cheaper than a 3rd party warranty plus independent servicing.

In contrast, when the Honda dealer i was at briefly rose to 3%, there was a meltdown at Swindon and they sent up a delegation from Head Office to find out what was going wrong with their cars!!
How long ago was Honda? We have two Jazz's in the family and used to use one of the small independent dealers but they got canned and the new one is crap. They refused a couple of things that I thought should be covered where I never had that isue with the old dealer. Honda not in the slightest interested - in fact for weeks they just kept sending auto-responses emails saying they were busy.I keep an eye on a Jazz forum and see lots of issues on the newer cars. Crossed Honda off our list.
After getting the 2013 Aygo serviced at the main dealer in the autumn this month the relax warranty came into play when the indicator stalk failed.
Originally it seemed we might have to pay for a diagnostics but on arrival was told it would likely be completely free and done under the warranty.
They also took a look at the hazard lights button which was iffy.
All fixed under the relax warranty so pleased.
Even had a coffee made for me as the courtesy car was brought around to the front.

Holy thread resurrection!
In the 7 months since this thread first came around, I've had the chance to experience it all myself.
With my 6 year old, 85k mile Ranger having decided it would rather be a cauliflower or an anvil rather than a functioning vehicle, I decided to cut my losses and shell out a not inconsiderable extra sum on a 6 year old, 75k mile Hilux - purely due to the warranty offer.
As soon as the used car dealer's 3 month warranty ran out, I booked it in for an 80k service at Oakmere Toyota in Cheshire to get the Relax ball rolling.
I initially gulped at the £520 cost of doing so, but resigned myself that it was worth it for the peace of mind.
However, having looked at the invoice I must say I was impressed at the amount of work carried out - 80k must be a major interval for the Hilux. As well as the usual engine oil, filter and cursory visual checks, it had new coolant, new brake fluid (which I could definitely feel in the pedal), new gearbox and axle oils and new cabin filters etc.
Even if buying all the fluids and parts myself and sending it to my trusted indy, it would probably have been close pricewise.
And I am now safe in the knowledge that should this one go bang 220 miles from home with a 20ft trailer in tow, it'll be Toyota's problem (rather than me shelling out nearly £2.5k in parts and labour to *still* not quite fix the Ranger)

Unless things have changed in the intervening years on a major service Toyota don't just squirt brake cleaner about (as most others do and call it brake servicing) they actually remove the pads and rear drums for proper cleaning and lubing of the necessary parts, and yes i did check because i'm ocd about brake maintenace and yes they had.

They are starting a car refurbishing service as well, where they will take an older car and try to return it to its best possible condition, I think to try and assuage fleet owners to hold onto older vehicles?
Its good to see a manufacturer acknowledge cars frequently last longer than 10 years now.

I regularly drive all sorts of mundane cars and small pickups in a country with very tough road conditions and it's very clear to me that Toyota are simply the best by a long way in terms of durability so I'm not surprised they're able to offer such a warranty. They command a large premium here over European / American vehicles - my neighbor recently sold his 2008 Land Cruiser with 100k miles for the equivalent of 23k GBP.
If you don't care about styling or fashion and you want something that lasts a long time, I really don't see why you'd buy anything else.

I think this is a future plan for electric vehicles, where the battery status/ refurbishment becomes an issue. Great plan.Its good to see a manufacturer acknowledge cars frequently last longer than 10 years now.

Interesting - I'd taken it to mean the warranty applies up to 10 years or 100k if reached between intervals - are you saying for definite that if you have it serviced with them at 9 years and 364 days or 99,999 miles, they'll still give it another year?ChemicalChaos said:

You can buy Honda’s extended warranty for a car up 8 years old. If you get the 36 month cover, it will extend to its 11th year.I think Honda and Toyota work to different durability standards to brands like VW who will only offer a 2 year extended warranty on cars up-to 6 years old ie. will only cover cars up-to 8 years old.
The manufacturers would have modelled all the potential payouts against the design life of their components.
I think German brands like VW spend on more on perceived luxury than durability, compared to the two Japanese brands I mentioned. I guess if they made their cars as durable as Toyota AND also spent on perceived luxury, their cars would even more expensive and perhaps not competitive.

If my vehicle is nine years and 364 days old on the day of service, will a Toyota Relax contract be activated and will it expire the next day
A full contract will be activated every time an eligible vehicle is serviced. In this example the vehicle will be covered until one day before the 11th anniversary of its first date of registration.
