Just been offered one at a good price but insurance quotes coming back at twice that for my Impreza. Obviously it's a lot newer but is there something about the GR I'm missing, such as they get nicked once a month ?

£200 for a Yaris GR?

I'm only paying £30 less for a Citroen C1 with full NCD and in a very low risk postcode!

Would you mind saying who that is with ? I phoned up my current insurer (eSure) and they couldn't say why it was so expensive, just that it was. Aviva is lowest quote I've found elsewhere. but still well above my current Impreza amount.

Yeah that's roughly what my wife pays for a Aygo (same car really).

Aviva insured a few people last year at the most competitive price

For reference £210 last year, £237 this year , comparison sites saying £320 is lowest (something to do with new insurance change re new customers)

For reference I’m 29 , with 10 years NCB it’s cheaper for me than a fiesta ST

Looks like maybe 20 been in some sort of large crash, but it’s got all the NCAP features and some parts are pretty cheap (wings) but obviously a fair few parts (more than normal) are unique to the car

You’ve save money either way as the GR is capable of 30-35 mpg vs Impreza 20-25 mpg

For reference it was over 500 for the first year which was more expensive than my modified m3.

I actually had a few options under £230 this year but Aviva was the best along with quote me happy.

My previous insurers couldn't come close to that.

The Yaris GR shares hardly any parts with a normal Yaris never mind an Aygo.

I think you’re not familiar with the car in question.

I'm paying about £170 all in. Sometimes being a 50 something and living in the sticks pays off, though I bet I lose out with a 20 mile weekly round trip to find decent fuel for it or to do a supermarket shop.

I think he was replying to me and saying the Aygo is the same car as the C1.

I thought one of the benefits of getting old was that insurance would come down... I'm 37 now and am expecting insurance quotes of around £500 this year frown and that's with 5k limited mileage!

Just to be clear. You're moaning that a limited homologation special road car is more expensive to insure than your Impreza which probably has parts available, st loads of them built so not as desirable and probably has to go back to a specialist to get repairs done, let alone has specific body panels that you can't just use from a standard Yaris. You can use such things as doors, boot, bumpers from a non turbo Impreza on a WRX, can't do that with a Yaris GR.

FYI take the Yaris GR and sell your Impreza. Unless the Impreza is a STI or is a classic, and you need the space then I'd 100% have the Yaris GR.

Possibly the insurance companies have worked out what it is now. My first quote was £300 (zero years NCD), second quote a bit more.
Parts will be difficult to obtain and as said above more than a few have been written off by over-enthusiastic owners.
As an aside, I found myself driving behind a couple of bug-eyed imprezas recently and have to say these are still the business.

I'm gobsmacked at these quotes for a £35-£40k high performance homologation special full of very expensive parts and bespoke body panels.

I suppose it's the relatively low numbers in production and the fact that they're so new that not many have had the chance to be crashed yet that bring the risk algorithms down?

I'm good cocker.

I just think that people should really think about what they are asking before posting. I could understand if he had a P1 Impreza then fair enough but just seems like a bog standard WRX or STI.
