There are loads of demo cars kicking about at the moment, dealers aren't allowed to sell any of them yet.

Some appear to have not even registered their demo cars. Maybe they hope to try and sell them without any previous owners at some point confused

I don't see the point in holding loads of demos in the dealer network? If people drive one and like it they can't then factory order a car (because Toyota aren't making any more) and if cars aren't even registered they're not really a demonstrator at all in my eyes!

So all in all I don't get Toyota's strategy with this. Having cars sitting in showrooms which aren't sold but apparently aren't available for sale either (like the one in York) just seems nuts to me; they're in business to sell cars so if GR86's are in demand why not just get on and sell the bloody things?!!

Demo cars cant be sold in case anyone with an order wants a test drive. No-one allowed a test drive without an online order.
I guess as soon as all the allocation has been delivered they will be sold.
Picked mine up 3 weeks ago.

Not strictly true, the dealership owns the demos not Toyota, so they can be driven by whoever they choose. This is typically customers with an 86 on order.

The Demos can’t be sold until Toyota say so, much like the GR Yaris. GR dealers have to run one, even though the order book closed in July ‘21!

Hope you’re enjoying yours though! driving

Just had an email from Toyota, seems like more GR86's will be coming to the UK afterall. Better make some space on the driveway!

Weren’t there 1000 people on the wait list?
I doubt they’ll bring that many extra in and register them before June 24, but you never know.

I didn't buy it as an investment, so no frothing here.

Am I right in thinking all 400 aren’t even in the UK yet and it’s been a year (or thereabouts although a while spent parked in a carpark awaiting a modification).

It'll still be at least 5 x rarer than the limited edition Yaris wink

Shots fired.

They are still delivering the first batch so may be a few dozen extra ones at the end. Great for anyone on the list. If you are not on the list probably little chance.

That’s true, initial batch not all delivered yet. Some weren’t due until 2024 but I believe they have speeded up and initial batch will be allegedly delivered by summer/autumn ish. Maybe that’s why they have time to deliver a few more before the eu nannying ban in 2024.

What was the cost of the GR86 first batch? On the road price with new reg fee, new car tax, plates etc?

Just trying to work out how much people are asking over the REAL price of the car delivered.

I'm on the wait list.

£29995 plus a bit more if you wanted any colour other than black. Normal metallic about 650 ish pearlescent a bit more, maybe 950 or so? That’s all in, tax/plates etc.

I’d be surprised if any new allocation was the same price though……

Wow. That was cheap. £36500 seems to be the asking price on Autotrader.

They're not shifting quickly at those prices though.
