Dailying a GR86

New car time is approaching and used prices of GR86's are reasonable atm so i am wanting any advice.

Approx 10k miles per year,motorway and a road use mostly.

They are very easy to use can’t think of any real issues. Bit a tyre noise at 70 mph but that’s no different to a Porsche etc

I've mostly dailyed mine. Had thought of putting it away for winter and using a Swift I have but in reality I used it straight through. Up to 13k now and it's been great. Around town, mpg is 25-28 with a little play. On a run I get 34-35mpg and about 340 mile to the 50l tank. Always run on Super. Is a bit noisier on motorway but is surface dependent. To me it's been a refreshing car to live with. Analog but has just enough tech. Mods are aplenty as lots transfers from the GT if you don't like something. Speakers and exhaust I upgraded (Focals and Remark axle back) and that's all I've needed to do. I'll do better brake pads and fluid when they need doing.

It's still a toyota, I think you can get a refund if they don't get to 500k miles

Similar experience to me, although I'm not at that mileage yet & haven't done any mods.

Added a bit in bold - I've found concrete type motorway/A road surfaces to be the worst for noise.

If your likely to be in lots of stop/start traffic the standard clutch may get annoying, I've not driven mine into London or in really heavy traffic yet, but will do at some stage so that'll be a test.

Seats are very good. I've never tried to have anyone sit in the back but there are 2x seats there.

Boots a good size. It doesn't come with a spare (you get a pump & some sealer), appears that there's room for a spacesaver & jack if you could source one (someone on GRZoo has)

Few things that are irritating. There's no mute button for the radio on the steering wheel and there's no built in wireless Bluetooth or factory sat-nav (via phone).

I'm not keen on keyless entry so would rather have the doors open via key fob press & I need to have the engine noise internal speaker unplugged or programmed out.

It's built to price so there's cheap plastic in the cabin which can scratch.

Really enjoying mine - great to drive, looks cool & still v.rare.

You can buy a wireless adapter to connect your phone to the car

£50 on Amazon , fitted one to my wifes Lexus two years ago and works fine

I've got one... need to upgrade my phone though as it's not compatible... I'm crap at tech...

I'd echo the comments above, tyre noise is the only issue, other than that it is very capable on long drives. Mine tracks really straight on motorways (if you know what I mean) so is very easygoing to drive.

Back seats aren't much use, but the boot is surprisingly decent and pretty large with the back seat down.

Via YouTube watch the reviews that Doug DeMuro (separate Subaru BRZ & GR86 reviews) and Matt Farrah (Smoking Tire) did 12-mths or so ago - they are both big/tall blokes.

I am 6'4 and 18st, prefer to think athletic build rather than a fat bloke but none the less, with a bit of fiddling with the seat I am comfortable. To be honest though I bought it with the view of getting a lower bucket seat, so the standard seat will be coming out soon.

As standard seats go though I am impressed with the comfort and hold, but ideally would like more length in the seat cushion for thigh support.

I found the road noise annoying on the GT86. 987 a lot better on 17s although enough mechanical engine noise, I can abide that. Test drove the GR hoping they'd have addressed it somehow without sticking heavy soundproofing on it but no. Got back in my Porsche.

Apart from a bit of been there done that noise was the deciding factor in my not going for a GR86. Long drives I can't be putting Airpods in to cancel out noise. But then again I am an acoustician/musician and a bit old. Still consider one sometimes.

Hold the source button on the wheel. I know it pauses tracks. Need to test if it mutes too
