Update on paint peeling situation:

Alpine say it was fine when it left us, must've been the PPF installer. PPF installer says paint hasn't been done properly... Which means I pay!

Sad start to the Alpine adventure, but hoping to forget about it when I start driving it on the 30th.

P.S. This was the Atelier color Orange Sanguine for what it's worth.

First a disclaimer - I am not a consumer rights expert!

However, if I left my car with a company and it was damaged in their care, they need to make it right with you.
If the PPF installer believes the trouble is with the paintwork they should not have undertaken the work - they are the experts not you.
Are you having to pay for a respray before the film is reapplied? It does not seem fair or right.

I can sort of understand Alpine washing their hands of this but if there is a paint shop issue they need to report it back to Dieppe.
There are many owners like you who will apply PPF and if it happens again with expensive Atellier colours it needs to be addressed.

Hope the fix gets sorted but you WILL love the car!

The guy who did the PPF (X pel) and Coating (Gyeon Q2 mohs) did the coating on the full car (also on the PPF area's). So the car is easy to clean on every area. Last week I cleaned the Alpine for the second time this year (because it was really dirty); cleaning was again easy and fast.
Thanks Franzino for your fast response, appreciated. Any thoughts on ceramic coating being applied to the alloys? I hear mixed views on whether ceramic coating makes any meaningful difference to easier cleaning of the wheels compared to just applying a silicone spray on the wheels after washing the car.

Renault have a history of paint shop problems! I have a beautiful 2010 Megane mk3 with several paint work issues! (too soft a finish & easy to damage!).

Seen a french megane forum where many other owners have similar issues over many years. Consensus seems to be Renault did not use enough paint layers when they programmed the robots to do the work...either to save money (most likely) or just a simple human error whatever the reason to fix is costly!

Megane 4 RS have the same issues on their current cars 1 little scratch or stone chip mark means 4 stage paint correction (which is not an easy quick fix as takes 2-3 days which is ridiculous on a 2021 prestige car!).

I would go back to Alpine if its going to cost a lot as they are probably trying to wriggle out of paying.

Ceramic coating of the wheels is of more benefit than the paintwork IMO.

It’s neat but it only lasts a year or so from what I’ve heard when shopping for a ceramic coating.

It depends on the product. I’ve had it on my Golf for 4 years - it has certainly degraded a lot but it does have some effect and I see very little brake dust sticking to my wheels still

It's on the wheels also...but can not help you with that question. I'm actually not a car cleaning guy and clean the wheels maybe two times a year to be honest. No idea if the coating on the wheels helps a lot.

Nice, if it lasts that long I should consider doing it sometimes !

Did you put PPF on car immediately from new?

There is a 'cure' period with new paint, during which you shouldn't apply PPF.
Probably not a factor with factory delivery times, but I wonder if the Atelier paint, supposedly painted by hand rather than robot, does require longer to cure? Or maybe more likely didn't cure properly at factory, even if timing was ok.

Update on my brake wear and vibration issues:

Firstly my journey home tonight was the first time in months I was able to happily prod the sport button with out fear of being driven to distraction by the ever worsening vibration. My local indy workshop easily diagnosed the cause as badly fitted undertrays, fixings poorly located causing the undertray to distort and vibrate, removal and correct re-fitment has cured the problem.
Disappointed this wasn’t rectified during the main dealer service last month, the issue was raised when I dropped the car off and on collection i was told some foam padding had been added on the engine cover mounting points, clearly the issue hadn’t been thoroughly invested.

Secondly, I’m glad i took the advice of another member on here who suggested i get a second opinion on the service report stating the need for new rear discs after only 30,000 miles. Again my local indy workshop has confirmed i need a new set of rear pads in the next couple thousand miles (completely accept this and will have the work carried out), but as for the discs I’m told there is plenty of life left in them and they will easily last the life of the next set of pads. So no need to blow the quoted £800 for rear discs now and nor will i need a front set of discs before the next service as reported by the main dealer.

Maybe perfect timing that my warranty expires in August as i leave the main dealer network for the pasture of my proven indy workshop that has served me so well in the past.
Many thanks for the update - good to know there’s a bit of life in the discs! Glad to hear it was an inexpensive fix for the vibration as well. Am I correct in thinking you are Cambridge based? Only asking as if you have a good Indy I might be interested in taking my car there after warranty.

Ask for a report from the PPF installer - I can’t see how PPF would damage clear coat - they spray washing up liquid or a fancy equivalent on the paint to slide the PPF on and then squeegee out the bubbles etc. There’s no pressure on the paint unless they messed it up and had to pull the PPF off and did so without heating it/ overheated it
When my ppf was fitted my car was given paint correction beforehand - if there had been clear coat issues they wouldn’t have added ppf - or at least I hope they wouldn’t have done so.

Us PE owners have our warranty expiring shortly;

Who is :

1.Looking to extend their warranty?
2. Planning on going indy after the warranty expires and

If you are going to go the Indy route will you be getting the final service done at Alpine just in case or moving over shortly.

I have found Manchester to be pretty good, the issue for me is its a day out every time which I could do without and its not even an interesting route.

Anyone know a good Indy in the west Midlands/Shropshire area as I am seriously considering my options.

I’m undecided about the warranty - like you I use Manchester but it’s a whole day if not longer.

I’m tempted to get the final service and MOT done before the warranty expires.

I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has in all honesty but it wasn't a cheap coating, although I don't remember which one unfortunately.

A110 spotted this evening.

Alpine Blue, in Teston near Maidstone, Kent, 5pm. So nice to finally see one in my favourite colour close to my home.

Anyone on here by chance?

I live in Wiltshire but work in Bristol so I’ve reverted back to a Bristol based indy I’ve used on & off for the past 10+ years. They are ex-Lotus mechanic’s who came highly recommended when i had my elise & europa and their service & knowledge has always been first rate.

Based on my recent experience I won’t be bothering Alpine Winchester again, third service has been done and I’ll be making sure i get an early mot incase of any issues i need addressed before the warranty expires. Not sure if Alpine offer an extended warranty option but if its anything like Porsche where you need to pay them to inspect the car before they will even offer you the privilege of paying for an extended warranty, its a resounding no from me. Besides I’m looking forward to adding some Life110 enhancements over the come 12 months wink

You don't have to get a Porsche re-inspected now if you're just extending the warranty. I think it changed a year or two ago

That’s interesting as I’m in Wiltshire too and currently use Martins. Would be good to learn who your indy is if you don’t mind sharing?

This 'beep' will likely be a squeaky sports exhaust valve (hence why happens in sport mode), needs a visit to the dealer for check over (plenty have been replaced on warranty). This is when you tell me it doesn't have a sports exhaust!
Thanks all for the advice. Alpine confirmed its the valve and they are offering to replace the exhaust as there is no other fix at the time. They are working on a fix where the exhaust wont need to be replaced but they said it could be 2022 by the time they have something. I've been told that it could also fail again. there's about a 20% chance of the valve make the squeak again. At least they can do this while I wait. About an hours work Alpine have suggested.
Can I just ask about this? My car has made a high pitched whistle/squeak since I picked it up (used 2018 PE). I assumed it was alternator whistle and was going to book it in, but now think it could be the exhaust. Does the noise rise with engine speed?

Thanks

Well about time as this little Porsche ‘stealth tax’ was the final straw for my (disappointing) ownership experience!
