Thanks all, that’s all helpful and useful info, as is the guide. I am seeing Jason and I’m testing it with my wife (although she doesn’t drive) and he has given me a route that will take about an hour.
It won’t be a daily it’s going to be a retirement present to me, and I know it’s not strictly comparing like with like, but it’s up against a V8 Vantage, Maserati Gran Turismo, BMW i8 and AMG GT, if the latter drops in price, budget is a strict £50k max (so I’m told) I want something that looks/feels special and is not a common sight, so I think it ticks those boxes but may be a little small for what will be used as a GT car, predominantly Euro road trips of weeks duration, when we’re eventually allowed again

My recent deal.
Showroom Legende, list price 54k
Negotiated to 50k
24 mth PCP @ 6000 miles
10k in
275 p/m
4.9% apr not great but liked that the risk of potential falling used values (cv19 impact) was with the finance company and not me.
Ammortised 691 per month.

That's a very "right" field set of alternatives (or the A110 is very left field). I'll be interested to see your views, given that your criteria/requirements/short list will, I'd expect, be rather different from most buyers. bcr5784 said:

Alpine was doing a contribution to stock cars if registered before end September.
Was it one of those? Almost bought one, but wasn’t quite the right spec.
Probably. Mine wasn't quite what I wanted but was close enough (I preferred buckets and bigger brakes) but since I'll probably hand it back decided to go for it. Was it one of those? Almost bought one, but wasn’t quite the right spec.

Makes sense - you don’t really need the bigger brakes anyway. I probably should have pushed the button, and actually called back last week to see if the car was still there, but it had sold. So went ahead and ordered one for next year. footsoldier said:

Something to look forward to anyway. If this one proves to be as good as I hope then I'll probably order another with one of the funky colours. WARNING: Picture heavy post!
Hey folks,
I've just got back from a five week long jaunt around Europe, stopping off at the Nürburgring and staying in the French Alps for the majority of the trip. Lots of awesome driving. Of course, since we were away for so long, the car was absolutely crammed to the gills.
What's really struck me is how well this car handles long road trips, especially after dialling in the geo. It sat happily on the autobahn at 150km/h, and was very comfy and quiet for such a journey. And yet, on the track and in the twisty alpine roads, the car's personality changes and it's an absolute barrel of joy to drive. Lovely stuff.
What wasn't quite so lovely is that at some point the drain hose from the AC condenser became disconnected, and I didn't realise until the passenger-side footwell was thoroughly flooded. Thankfully, the Alpine mechanic at my dealer is a pretty great guy, and within 5 minutes of me sending an email from my phone ("Hello yes my car has a foot spa for the passenger, is that normal?"), he called me up and coached me through disassembling the trim to get to the condenser and re-connecting the hose.
This hose should be connected to something.
Better!
After a few days of drying it out with the carpet peeled back and the sound/heat absorber material drip-drying, the wet smell went and it didn't happen again. Phew! Now I'm back, it'll go back to the dealer for a check on the condenser and a few other niggly things that've cropped up — creaky seats, that sort of stuff.
These things live under the carpets and hold a HUGE amount of water.
And, a mishap that was caused by me rather than the car… we pushed the "How far can we go after the fuel gauge hits zero?" game a little bit too far, and actually ran out of fuel. Luckily, we were within range of a taxi! (The answer: about 40-50km between absolutely empty on the gauge to actually empty)
The flooding had the potential to cause a bit of a disaster, but luckily it got sorted at the side of the road and I was able to continue. In the end it was an absolutely wonderful trip, and I'm very impressed with the car's versatility as a joyful sports car and as a longhaul cruiser (although I did come from an MX-5).

Excellent info (I'm also coming from a series of MX5s and whilst I was assuming it'd be fine for weekend touring and weekly shopping this has reassured me (and also made me more set on it))
Bugger about the AC condenser though.
Damp notwithstanding looks like an awesome trip. Very jealous

Some great photos and good to see it being well used.
The creaking seats you mention, is this like a light annoying rattle? Mine has developed a rattle from the N/S cabin which I think is the door trim but could be the seat which I hadn't thought about. Going in tomorrow for investigation.

Rattling door trim is a known problem with a known fix.The creaking seats you mention, is this like a light annoying rattle? Mine has developed a rattle from the N/S cabin which I think is the door trim but could be the seat which I hadn't thought about. Going in tomorrow for investigation.

It's 100% definitely the seats in my case — the passenger side only does it with a passenger onboard, and the driver's side only does it with me in the seat (not when my wife is driving, and she's significantly lighter than I am). My mechanic tightened up some bolts on the passenger side which fixed it for a few weeks, but then it came back.Gassing Station | Alpine | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
