So had my test drive today, not ideal weather though so was fairly cautious
Alpine Winchester, Jason has gone, left on Tuesday apparently so they weren’t expecting me so a bit disorganised but we got there in the end.
I took an 18 reg Pure out (although I think I’d go Legende) and with 16000 miles on it it still seemed rattle free, apart from loose rear view mirror.
So, what a lovely thing it is, not like anything I’ve driven before, quick enough and good in the twisties (very wet though) and more than comfy and quiet enough for motorway work, not quite as tiny as I expected, plenty of room for me and the wife but not a lot of luggage/storage space though as expected. Overall it exceeded my expectations in terms of speed, noise (loud and quiet) and grin factor and the wife liked it so it’s definitely a maybe. It’s only real competitor I think at this stage is a V8 Vantage, previous shape which I’ve not yet driven. I know it’s chalk and cheese but it’s good fun working out which way to go
Oh and it had the sports exhaust which the big kid in me absolutely loved, just made me chuckle

Was it this one you took out? I didn't realise it had the sports exhaust.

I was there from 11 and got back about 12:15
The only thing nagging at the back of mind is French build quality........
I've run a couple of Renault hot hatches and used them extensively on track and they've been very durable.
I would expect running costs to be reasonable given the underpinnings, light weight and skinny tyres etc.

While there have been a few niggles I'd have to say that considering that the Alpine is a completely new car with a new construction in (essentially) a new factory I have been pleasantly surprised how free the Alpine (not just mine) has been of major issues. (Compare with the engine issues Porsche has had).BarryGibb said:

This was Renault West London. Went to Winchester this afternoon as well.
Porsche OPC didn't return our call (Boxster 4.0), and we've decided a 981 GTS isn't for us, so it's definitely going to be an Alpine.

I thought it might be the one in West London, it's where I got mine from. Hopefully that helps answer your question about where to pitch your offer. Not trying to tell you how to negotiate, I told them what the price would need to be for a deal, thanked them for their time and left the dealership. Later that evening I got a call and they agreed.
Good luck.
Good to hear we might have some more owners soon. On the SE I don’t find it obtrusive at all on my S, in normal mode it’s quite docile and quiet at motorway speeds. It does crack and bang in sports mode but I guess that’s the whole point and appeals to the 20yr old in me
Sorry to hear Jason has left Winchester he was a pleasure to deal with, I know he’s on here so hope all’s well?

On Jason I hope so too as seemed a bit wiffy as first person said off sick and then I was told no he left on Tuesday, I got the distinct impression it was sudden!Sorry to hear Jason has left Winchester he was a pleasure to deal with, I know he’s on here so hope all’s well?

Yep that’s the one, I assumed it was a sports exhaust as it popped and burbled, so if that’s the std exhaust then not sure how loud the SE is, possibly too much.
The sports exhaust is only "active" in Sport mode. You do get pops and crackles in Normal mode, but these are intensified in Sport and you get a distinct "crack" on upward changes when pressing on. You also get (which I don't personally like) embarassing flatulence on the overrun. The other thing is that when the car has the sports exhaust it has a "soundactor" which operates in either mode - at modest revs it makes a noise that I can only describe as similar to the "gobble gobble" noise you get with twin choke Webber cars. At a cruise in either mode the exhaust is very unobtrusive.I should add that my comments are based on my PE which is pre particulate filter, I would expect cars post August 2018 to be a bit quieter.

Hi. Enjoyed reading this thread. I'm very close to pulling the trigger on the new Legend GT. Admired them for a while now and when I saw the GT at Salon Prive I had to go and test drive one. The spec in silver with the tan leather is stunning. Not many options to choose from, heated seats and premium sound the two i will probably go for. Not going to be tracking it so track pack doesn't add any value to me. Anything else I should consider or bear in mind? Cheers.

I'd listen to the premium sound - with the subwoofer. I have had a courtesy car with the premium audio and spent time configuring it and comparing it with the standard Focal system on my PE. Personally, however set up, I think the bass is much woolier than the standard focal audio, which already has good crisp bass. I'd avoid the storage pack - it's a rip off and impedes access to the space behind the seats. Whats the track pack - I can't see it on the configurator.Edited by bcr5784 on Thursday 8th October 11:05

Venisonpie, I'm not sure where you are in the country but when restrictions are lifted I owe you a nice lunch

That's great news, glad it went ok. Who did you deal with? I bought mine from Jarrod but I know there are a few who can sell Alpine.Hopefully pick it up on Saturday.
I'm West London and a very kind offer but honestly no need - I'm just pleased to help. However if there's a few owners who use the dealer or are within striking distance then maybe a group run out/meet might be interesting in the future.

A drive would be great. The run from Ockham down to Petersfield is a good one but happy to meet wherever.

Yes it was Jarrod. Nice chap and must be good for him to occasionally deal with cars that are a bit different.

How did the handover go, any pics yet?A drive would be great. The run from Ockham down to Petersfield is a good one but happy to meet wherever.
One thing I noted was that the water temperature fluctuated between 83-104 during the journey round the M25. I'm hoping "they all do that sir!" Planning on taking it out for an evening ride once the traffic dies down. It has a really nice ride.
